Music Competition with Popular Selection !

Just want to share with parents, and other teachers, www.recital.com.hk has launched their online entry for this year's competition.

What is very interesting, is this year, the competition has Popular Selections for students to compete in. Very interesting selections ! I think this is first competition with such category. There is still the usual ABRSM selections...

Any more info about the organization?  I have read thru the website but I have doubt and worry.  Is it another "北大"?  The admission fee is quite high.

Definitely not like that "scary" association that just takes money. I never joined after once.
From last year's experience, I thought it was a good experience for my daughter, and the kids who joined. Sincere advice and comments from the adjudicators, and each participant received medal and certificate. If winners, there are three trophies, and 2 small trophies for honourable mentions. This years looks more strict, and more detailed than last year.

I think it's a good option from the other competitions around. Definitely fair because NO commercial affiliation, I like that.

I think the prices are fair, because the classes are said to be small, so each participant gets personal comments.

Will see how it goes this year.

我個女上年玩過喎...但係我覺得麻麻地
每個項目都係分小組比賽，冇決賽，凈係一個二級可能都有8組....每組十幾人，有分豬肉獎之嫌。
上年報名費都冇咁貴，我記得初級到二級都係$180，今年暴增!

比賽的評判質素和安排怎樣呢? 我小朋友仲細, 參賽是想他觀摩別人的水準和聽聽評判的評語; 但不想參加好似"北大"果類機構辦的賽事, 所以想問多d意見, 謝謝!

Why do parents feel winning 1st place out of over 100 or 200 competitors, then it's REAL competition? If a competition like this one tries to encourage students to "perform" and be given positive and constructive comments, and recognizes those who are especially good by giving trophies, why should it be accused of "handing out "prizes thoughtlessly?

Like Radiomama, I want to let me kids to have experience to perform on stage, and listen to others, and not be scared by the experience. Last year, my daughter went to preliminary level, didn't win anything, but she was happy to receive the medal. This year, she is willing to go again. That is the spirit !

If one was looking for the BIG and really serious competitions, then you have other choices.

This one I think is good because I like the "masterclass" style at the end of each class.

Prices did go up, (doesn't everything?) but I think it's still very reasonable.

我囡場比賽唔混亂，情況ok。咁有咁多場比賽，有d混亂有d ok，都睇下主辦單位點處理。"官方"實會話自己比賽好，報名費合理。與其你唔知信邊個，不如試玩一次，自己決定囉，唔岩既咪下年唔玩。

Just want to ask what is the right price for the competition classes then? The most expensive is Diploma is $ 780.00, I think it's very reasonable compared to other competitions that are out there right now. Of course one cannot compare to HKSMA's competitions, they have much more financial support.

I personally think the fees are very reasonable, especially the one that you have to play two pieces....

Of course, parents have many choices.
As a parent, I just think it is one of the more encouraging competitions out there.

一個比較新給本地小朋友參加的比賽,今年只是第二屆,當然不可以與學校音樂節和亞洲鋼琴賽比較。但亦未嘗不是一些志在參與和吸取出場經驗的小朋友家長另一選擇,論費用亦非太高。至於安排細節等失誤,亦需要時間和經驗作岀改進,一班年青人無論為何目的走在一起為音樂而作出某種推動,還是可以支持的吧!
個人對這比賽並沒有任何認識,但從宣傳片中還是認出一二位年輕朋友。

If you have suspicions, and negative thoughts about this, please don't join, but do be fair to the competition. I have experienced problems with many competitions in HK, including HKSMA. It doesn't mean it is a scam competition.

As a music educator, I am just informing the public about this as a possible choice  and good opportunity for students in HK, especially in preparation for upcoming ABRSM exams in Oct- Nov.

Take a few minutes and watch the video on the website. It will give you an idea what standards was last year.

I never heard of this competition before, but I joined for my son this year. I think is a very good chance/experience for kids to pratice more on stage.

令我留意的是因為鋼琴組首席評判Raymond Young,最難得的是他那一份對音樂的熱愛,执着和對年輕的音樂朋友非常包容和支持。

From what I heard, I think this year, the honorary consultant is going to be Nancy Loo, she was one of the adjudicators last year and Raymond Young will continue to be the head juror.

I also liked listening to Mr. Wang Nan's comments to many of the young pianists. He wrote a book and it's very interesting all about piano teaching....
