Hello NT27,
My girls were transferred into HYPS in P.4 and P.6. I found HYPS not so traditional as their original traditional school (Po Leung Kuk school). Much emphasis is put on learning from application and projects, rather than memorizing or copying. The girls are encouraged to give their opinions but order is maintained in class. Students will not be talking like in a market (as I heard other parents/teachers describe some DSS schools).
You can read other posts in this forum about homework and academic requirements in lower grades, esp. those by TWMa or Szema. Sometimes pressure is not from the school, but from parents and the children themselves. In HYPS, it has a friendly environment. The girls are not very competitive among themselves regarding academic results (only grades are shown in report card and no ranking) because there are many activities to join and each girl may be good at one thing or another.
