Hi everyone,i am writing for all of ur opinions.I am studying in year 9 at uk by now,but i found out there are so many chinese girls in our school so i decided to change school at last October, and my agent gave the  schools information at November so i picked up City of London Freeman school and Caterham school, but about a few months waiting,my agent told me that they don't have any boarding place now.Meanwhile,i wrote to Canford school and took a test for the people who on the waiting list, and i got back my result and they said they are quite pleased with my result and they will offer me a place as soon as they have a free place. But i have been waiting since  March and i haven't got any response.I know by heart that its actually a long shot but i do hope that i can get into that school and can anyone please tell me is there any chance that i can apply any other school cos i know if i can't make the change at year 10 and i have to wait till i m in year 11.I know most of u are really experienced, could u please tell me what should i do,since my parents don't even know how to help me and they don't really care about it,and my agent seems not care much as well.I have get everything done by myself and i have got the exam coming up,please do give me some advise, thank u very much!!!!

其實我有再問一次,但校方仍話情況無變,更加話incresing unlikely that a place will become available,我其實真係好灰心。

Rachel,

Unfortunately, it seems that you don't have many options at the moment.  But let's go back to the root of the problem first.  You said "you found out there are so many chinese girls in your school so you decided to change school".  What exactly is the problem with that?   Do they all speak Chinese and you feel you are unable to learn good English that way?  Does your school take in students indiscriminately and the overall standard is no good?  What really is the problem?  You need to assess how bad the problem is and you have to think carefully if changing school is a must for you.  I say this because every school has its own problems and the last thing you want is to change to another school with a different, but equally serious, problem.  Furthermore, you can't afford to change school often which will not look good on your CV.  By the way, you will be doing GCSE in Year 11, right?  If you change school at Year 11, will that be a problem too?  Let me make myself clear.  I am not persuading you not to change, but I think rushing into it is not a good idea either.  Even if you are able to find a place elsewhere, you still need to find out everything about this new school before you commit to it.  Having said that, I feel that the agents may be the ones who are able to give you the best help and advice.  They are in business and if you pay them, there is no reason why they don't want to help you. (Of course, you can't trust them completely and you need to make your own investigation.)  If you really feel that you must change school, then don't give up.  But at the end of the day, what is most important is your academic results.  If you work hard and get good results, I am sure you will find a good school sooner or later.

re:bobby
thank u for ur reply.i think the main problem is the overall standard of the students of our school is not so good,i mean not only the chinese girls, even the girls come from other countries like spain and anywhere else.Still, there are some out standing girls but there r very few of them and even though the local girls are not really good as well.I say that because i seem to be one of the top student in our year but i wasn't that good when i was in hk and i didn't come from a famous school or something like that.I did work hard and seeing the people around me,i feel like they r not really working.maybe i should not say it in that way and thats how i feel. Also,i feel like this school doesn't care about the pupils much, everything is just not flexible and they follow the old system even though there are so many objections and opinions.the reason i want to change the school now is because of the GCSE options in our school are not quite enough, there r more different options in other school which i really want to try but i won't have the chance to learn it in our school, fly, like Greek that is the subject i can't do in my school.I really enjoying learning languages and it is something really attractive to me.Like learning german to me,it was a subject entirely new and strange to me at last september when i first came, but now its one of my best and favourite subject in here. Also, since I gave up my favourite subject, chinese and chinese history and come here,i really do want to take the chance to do something that i like.Furthermore,my history teacher is leaving at next term and i m taking history for GCSE,that 's another reason that i worried about as well, cos history means a lot to me and the other history teachers from our school are not quite well.that makes me feel that i want to leave this school.i know u r helping me to clear up my mind should i do this or not and i know clearly i do want to do it,but everything seems to be too late now.but anyway, thank u very much for the advise!!!

Rachel,

You are a very smart girl.  You know how to think for yourself.  As long as you work hard and keep trying, nothing is going to be too late for you.  I have just came across this story.
http://edition.cnn.com/2012/06/0 ... -harvard/index.html

I don't think her school is a lot better than yours.  On the other hand, I am sure your situation is infinitely better than hers.  She did it through hard work and persistence.  So could you.  Remember that the agents can't really open doors for you. Only your academic results could.  So make the best of what you've got at your existing school is the key.  Get another agent to help you if you want.  But there is one thing that puzzles me.  You said "you trusted the ranking".  Does it mean that your existing school is not ranked badly at all?

I'm sure there's pros and cons in all schools. Bear in mind that you may have these same problems even when you change school. Just like the history school problem, how can you know without attending the other school lessons that you'll like their style of teaching. Also about languages, I'm not saying that you shouldn't learn more language but at year 10 it may be worth you concentrating on what you have at the moment (focusing on core subjects).
