Although I'm an optimistic person in nature, I have reservation placing a kid already diagnozed as mild grade in a normal school. I'm not saying that they must be educated in special schools, just normal school usually does not have the resource to train kids with special needs. Merely forcing the kid to cope with daily homework and regular test/exam are not really learning and at the end the poor child might gain nothing...

Dear Rabbitmama, I sincerely urge you to reconsider your choice of school for your kid. If his/her IQ is on the lower side (l<60) of the mild grade range (50-69), then it might be better for him/her to be educated in a special school first and move him/her out after a few years if s/he really can progress. I did see cases like that in the past.

1. Difficult but not impossible. A lot of support from the school (i.e. tailor-made the curriculum for the kid) will be required. Merely "training" the kid on the parent's side will not work.

my son is around 90.
he has no choice but has to go to normal primary.
teacher in Heep Hong said he has to attend regular private tutorial given by experienced teacher for at least several years after p1, and put in a not too diffcult school, for better adaptation.

When and How did you check the IQ of your son?  I am also thinking about let my son checking IQ before we select primary school for him. Thanks.

Dear stellacl,

Is your psychologist Cantonese speaker? If so, can you let me know the details of the psychologist.  I want to do the same assessment when my child attain the age of 5, i.e. before going to primary.  However, those clinical psychologists I know are all foreigners and could only conduct the assessment in English.

我小兒都係排鴉蘭街, 本身應該今年做test, 但因小兒重讀多一年, 所以押後一年先做評估, 其實我以為今次估評會話比我知究竟我個仔o既IQ去到邊, 因為自2歲半評o左係發展遲緩, 就係要等到下次評估先知(相隔好多年). 我想知道鴉蘭街會唔會話比你知IQ有幾多分???之前響協康做個IQ評估, 做韋氏不成功,(因他語言能力低, 做唔到) 他日希望再做多一次, 你可否PM DR.T o既資料比我呀, 因為我唔知佢全名, 好難在網上查詢!

I heard that Kwai Chung clinic's service is good and the psychologist is also good.

My son's assessment is in Kln Central. It is the opticimist in that centre who help me to registered for the assessment, or else there is no assessment. But once register, they will call you at appropriate time, unless you want an urgent assessment.

The psychologist in Kln Central is very bad, and she tell just very scanty information of the report to me.

I have not brought my son for private assessment. Instead he join very early the P1 preparation class. I think the teacher of this class can tell me more his weakness in group, rather just individual assessment.

Bear in mind that some of the CPs work in two centres and also they might be transferred to another centres for various reasons. So there might still be "bad" CPs in Kwai Chung and "good" ones in Kln C.

Dear Dr. T,
1.  Can you tell me the IQ score of normal people.  As most of our children are very inattentive and moody, they may under-perform in the test so that the IQ score may not reflect the true picture.  Is there any remedy for this?

2.  Is there positive co-relation between the physical fittness of a child and his IQ score?
