International Baccalaureate
35 points including 766 at Higher Level
Notes: The total point score of 35 includes TOK/EE.
Accepted award:
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)
Required grades:
Three elective subjects at minimum Levels 5*, 5, 5 plus Level 4 in three core subjects excluding Citizenship and Social Development.
Required subject:
Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we would require the following: A* - Achieve 5* in the required subject; A - Achieve 5 in the required subject; B - Achieve 4 in the required subject. Where our online prospectus requires Mathematics at A-level, the HKDSE core Maths will not be sufficient by itself. Where Mathematics A grade is asked for, we require: either Level 5 in Compulsory Mathematics and Level 5* in Extended Mathematics, or, Level 5* in Compulsory Mathematics and Level 5 in Extended Mathematics, in addition to two further elective subjects at 5, and 4 in remaining core modules.

Entry requirements:
(i) Via JUPAS scheme (on the strength of HKDSE)
English and best five HKDSE subjects, including category A subjects and M1/M2 with at least an overall score of 42;
Attained (A) / a score of Level 3 or above in Citizenship and Social Development / Liberal Studies1 respectively;
at least Level 5 in English; and
no score lower than Level 4 in the best five subjects.
Note: Conversion of HKDSE grades into scores:
Level 5** = 8.5, 5* = 7, 5 = 5.5, 4 = 4, 3 = 3, 2 = 2, 1 = 1, unclassified/others = 0.
(ii) Via non-JUPAS scheme (on the strength other than HKDSE)
GCE A levels: Minimum grades A*AA; or
IB Diploma: 39 points (excluding bonus points), including no score lower than 6 in each examined subject, and at least a score of 19 points in three higher level subjects; or
an equivalent standard in an alternative qualification which satisfies the University of Hong Kong entry requirements.

1 Liberal Studies taken in the 2023 HKDSE will be included when calculating the best 2023 and 2024 HKDSE results for the calculation of the overall score.

KCL LLB is highly recommended and recognised by top tier law firms. Although it may be a bit ranked lower than Oxbridge and LSE. KCL=UCL=HKU in the selection. If budget is not a concern, getting exposure in London has definitely advantages in getting from offers after graduation.
Yep, for HKU, there is also exchange programmes, but the competition is keen, for exchange to UK good law schools like KCL, you must have GPA higher than 3.5.
I don’t think conversion program is a concern for top students like your girl. In the worst case, you may need another year for completing it. But U.K. is a 3 year curriculum, that means in terms of time, it is on par with studying HKU.
It is unable to compare LLB vs OT which iscompletely different

Another key factor, as members has shared in another thread.The awarding system in U.K. universities is different from HK.In short, in HK, GPA system means you failed (getting a B- or below in a few law subjects) will definitely affect your law CPA and chance to getting into PCLL or big firm. For UK systems, different universities have different scheme but you can check that getting 90%+ students can get a 2nd upper honours and 30% first honour

Dual degree has 5 places only in HK and 5 places for applicants in UK

It was told by my friend who has his son having an CO to LLB this year.
HKU is more transparent in non-JUPAS admission and posted the ‘minimum’ requirement in the admission brochure every year. You can refer this for 2022.

However, please attend their open day to get latest information and talk to the professors to see what are the actual admission grade they normally take students. The minimum score shown in this pdf may only be used to attract more applications only.
For your information, the CO for some subjects this year are:
CUHK QFIN is A*AA
HKUST Global business is 2A*1A
TBH, no matter HKU or CUHK or HKUST, the minimum academic requirements are higher than that in UK. Professors in HKU told me that they are keen to admit students from UK but the fact is that those students who can meet the CO from HKU are usually admitted to top UK universities (UK universities in general have lower CO but certainly they have other assessments or admission tests)

I have the brochure on hand for HKU international admissions 2024.It mentioned 3A* for Bachelor of Laws entry requirements .Your friend’s son is great to have offer at 2A*1A
