BNO仲有太多細節未清晰，等英國公布晒詳情先。
如果小朋友響香港讀開國際學校，又可唔可以接受響英國讀state school? 資源上後者明顯差一截。如果本身afford到又真係心儀英式教育，不如讀返私立boarding school

State school 質素參差，大班教學，有些會比較雜，我朋友剛移居去英國去都係入私校。

State School的確係比較參差, 尤其係free school/sponsored academy. 如果真係想入讀state school, 最好揀converted academy.

其實都唔打算再在呢個平台回帖，不過見到呢個hot topic , 就搭下咀。我計劃中，因為去到英國一定冇現在的收入，而私校價同香港的國際學校差唔多，如決定移居，我只可以afford state school , 所以會選好區定居。細節未定，有興趣pm 傾

Actually private schools in UK are significantly more expensive than international schools in HK, take Harrow for example ...

Harrow (UK)

If we skip boarding in Harrow International then we would be paying double in UK.

The UK has this peculiarity, what they call "public schools" are actually private schools, e.g. Harrow is considered a public school, the real public schools for the masses are called "state schools" which are free :)

我研究過，其實喺香港讀得 IS 都應該有啲要求，所以去到嗰邊如果讀 state school 就好似香港讀津校咁，呢樣係咪家長接受到？我老公覺得小朋友讀書係好重要，如果過到去都想佢哋讀私校。

State school通常睇ofsted report, 不過好多outdated and 變得好快...
Grammar school會好啲但only secondary? And要考
Private schools 我見不少大約£4-5000 per term (day school).. 同香港的IS school fee差不多... 差別係我過到去要做ftm, 家庭收入大減
我覺得可以考慮先private primary school之後再轉grammar secondary school, 唔知是否可行呢？

根據 Sutton Trust 嘅調查, 就讀私校嘅學生比 state school 的學生入讀牛劍嘅機會係高七倍, 所以如果你的目標是top大學, 最好考慮private school。

Very useful video for those who are interested in state schools in the UK. They are non-selective, and if they are not over-subscribed they must accept your child regardless of his/her academic ability, the only requirement is that your home address must be within the area they serve. Tuition is free too, so no worries about money.

However, since these schools are non-selective, there will be some bad apples in the barrel so they are not everyone's cup of tea.

政府免費學校就叫做 state school.

要交學費嘅學校:
public school means open to public

, 就好似哈羅公學.

independent school －即私校，比較少叫做private school

yes basically she only did workbooks for around 3 months, the first month wasnt good, she got a lot of wrong, even till the end the progress was slow, but at then end, one will get there, just dont give up, keep doing it, as long as u have done enough, the questions are quite similar

Thanks, actually it looks very hard but I believe HK kids have an advantage, hk kids are kind of used to doing quite a lot of homework intensively. Hence although doing practice papers is hard but its still something HK kids are very good at I think.
My relatives also got into Grammar school this coming sept, so maybe it is not easy but it is not hard either, depends how u plan things out

Maybe yes, as far as my search, london is very competitive, mainly because u can imagine, there are a lot of people in London, hence more kids might mean more talents?!

Also even the normal state schools are quite oversubscribed.

The other thing is there are not many grammar schools in London:

There are currently 19 grammar schools in London and 164 in England in total.

I live just outside London, but I can get access to London very fast, so I think I choose the right spot , with more grammar school choices and less number of kids to compete for a place

thing is if you dont try, you wont know, sometimes kids can surprise you, my daughter did the test and I ask her, what do you feel about your test? she said it was both challenging and the test did help her a lot in terms of her vision and self confident, she believes it helps her to improve herself and help her to see her potential and she can step out of the box and learned that now she has no limit, she can achieve a lot of things which she couldn't before
it was really eye opening for her

Hi I am in Kent, just outside London, there are a lot of Grammar schools in the county, I looked at London and the figures (now I cant remember which web site I checked though), it seems like its not easy in London, many good private schools are extremely hard to get in too. Also London is an expensive city!

However, I do like London very much, it takes only 30 mins plus to get to London from my place, hence sometimes, I still go out with my kid to museum and shops etc. I think its a perfect location for me.
Quiet and yet close to action

I only checked the area near tower bridge, London, last year, most of the good schools are faith schools and in order to choose them, u need proof that u belong to their church, I am not sure if they accept proof from HK's church, but the best one I wanted to get in did require over 3 years church attendance "proof", hence it wont really work for me. Apart from the faith school, other schools in the area are not standing out.

我都有考慮過辭職，我拎住BNO 陪阿仔响英國讀書。我仔11歲，在ESF 讀完year 7, 上個月有一間Grammar School 收咗佢讀Year 9, 變相讀小一年慳好多。
而家如果BNO holder 的子女都可享受到國民的教育，我會考慮過去陪佢

其實我睇埋英國樓價(非倫敦), 唔算貴，而日常所須(如買餸)仲平過香港的超市，所以好心動，當然…保險／稅項／電費／女貴／交通都貴過香港

全英國有百幾間Grammar School , 唔一定要在倫敦讀，早啲搵定心儀地區及心儀學校，再搵agent 留意返心儀學校招生日期。最重要係，小朋友的英文能達到學校要求，
當日我個仔有用Google Meet 同學校做interview ，基本要求可以流利地同學校溝通

考政府grammar school 既 11 plus, 一定要去uk考的啊！每年太約九月考，不過今年可能延期一點吧！情況難料

Just be prepared that IS in HK is much better resourced than a state school in the UK. But of course there are many other considerations for moving to the UK.
I read the following in the Guardian recently so just for sharing, and also gives some insight into British families' perspective of state Vs private schools:

It says in April during school closures, only 3% of state primary and 6% of state secondary provided online lessons. Though ofcourse I'm unsure of the reliability of the survey done.

That's my son school, a mixed Grammar School. My son only got an interview from Google Meet only. No paper test .

This is also true in HK. As far as I know many local schools do only provide limited learning instructions during school closures while IS provide daily learning materials and online learning.

But, the reasons behind are the same. Parents are paying so much for school fees so the school needs to do something to fulfill the parents' expectation. Otherwise, they can't justify how they can still get the school fees while the school is closed.
