HI all,

I am a mother of 2 year's old daughter(born in Aug 2017). We have applied for a K1 place in Year 2020 at ESF Wukaisha Kindergarden(We lived nearby). However, I just received their notification that they will not even arrange an interview for my daughter. I called to ask the reason and the teacher replied that they have overwhelmed application this year, which is 400+ application and they can only arrange 250 quota for applicants arranged for an interview.

This is quite unacceptable to me. This limited 250 interview quota is not even disclosed in public information. Their application fee is hkd500 which is not refundable even without an interview arrangement!!! This is outrageous!!! I am very very angry and disappointed but seems no further action could be taken.

Any parents can provide any guidance or solutions to this circumstance? Or share more information about other ESF kindergarden's application process?

Same here just received the email from hillside. My daughter holds USA passport, but still need to wait for a interview. Really duno what’s their selection standard for an interview.

I called to ask the details and the ESF staff encouragingly recommended me to purchase their debentures to get the priority for an interview, which is hkd500,000!!! I think at least interview should be arranged as we have already paid the application fee, which is hkd500, not a small number for application fee compared to other school which only charged hkd40...

我見我朋友小朋友有得IN仲入埋，讀緊K2，
我以為只要肯俾報名費就有得IN
(不過佢係青衣校，N班讀普通連鎖私校，無外國護照，普通中產家庭)

ESF Wukaisha School？I am thinking if it is feasible to write email to their principal and ask for them to arrange interview or refund the application fee. BTW, any channel to lodge a complaint to them？Will Education Bureau speaks for this？

Wu Kai Sha, we only hold foreign passport, no other priority.

報名須知有講：

The final step to complete an application is payment of the application fee. The ESF Kindergarten application fee is HK$500. The fee is a non-refundable, non-transferable administration fee for each application and that the collection of fee constitutes no assurance that a Kindergarten place or interview will be offered. The fee does not provide any priority over the allocation of a morning or afternoon session, which are randomly allocated in order to ensure equal opportunities for all successful applicants. Income from applications fees, as a whole is intended to cover the administrative cost of the online application system as well as the staff cost of the admission assessment purposes⋯

下年幼稚園改through-train, 所以admission talk講明有買debenture或foreigh passport holders (70%學生)優先，其實同其他國際學校既system差唔多

This is how most IS conduct their business, I.e. you need to pay an application fee regardless of having a chance for interview or not...that’s the game...
In this current situation in HK, I guess there will even be more ppl applying for ESF or alike; will be even more competitive to get in lol

yes you can. but think twice it is hkd500K only for an interview priority. but I guess this will facilitate the way for entry to esf.

ESF 網址有寫，唔一定有得IN, 其實500蚊如果入到係直到中學畢業。冇辦法一定多人報

500k for priority to interview is a bit misleading... it is 50k first for priority for interview, if you get accepted, then you pay the 450k. Amortised over kindie, primary and secondary its around 38k a year, a lot of parents are fine to make this investment especially if they have more than 1 child.

The zone for wks, sjs and sc is one of the best esf clusters of schools in terms of IB results, the classrooms are wonderfully equipped with really nice facilities, it is worth every penny.

Even though you got wait-list, there is still a chance to be called for a playvisit as people start dropping out during deposit stage and first school term payment stage. Even after school starts seats do open up. Stay positive, you have foreign passport, still got chance.

平心而論,佢喺個網址寫清楚 ,因為太多人報,所以隨機抽number ,同埋跟priority ,如果你random number唔靚, 唔係一定有得in ,其實畀五百蚊, 如果好彩抽到有得interview, 又收咗,係直到中學畢業, 所以多人報係好正常, 太多人in 唔曬, 都無可厚非, 憎多粥少, 唯有報多幾間back up
佢網站寫得好清楚唔係一定有得in，如果唔接受應該唔好報名。

應該係，我朋友小朋友是青衣校，前年IN，有Offer讀緊
佢報左幾間名幼全部收reject，唯獨得esf一個offer，把心一橫走國際路線
(無外國護照/父母非專業人士的N無人士)

上年全部in完,如果pass嘅人，先會跟priority派offer,之後n無就跟number派，前就有offer, 后就waitlist（唔pass就會reject）。就算waitlist開學前後都有機會call, 開學之後都會有人走，跟住就不斷有人補上。K1成25人一班，上下晝共8班（唔知有冇記錯），上年就約500人申請。唔知今年幾多人申請呢？

由2020年8月起，凡入讀英基轄下國際幼稚園K1的學生，將不用再接受任何升學評估，保證直升英基的小學及中學。

之前係大機會直升，而家係保證直升

ESF wu kai sha 行政勁亂！之前報過佢play group, 成日無啦啦cancel, 有次仲離譜，當佢3點上堂，佢3點幾先send sms黎話cancel! 我工人已經同左佢去！最後摸門釘！真心嬲！之後去投訴，直頭話唔讀、叫佢退番$俾我！（佢初時仲想叫我轉其他班）

To be honest compare with other IS, $500 application frees is really affordable. Anfield is $800 / FIS is 2800 and they both never guarantee interview must be provided

I am one of those who applied for ESF Wu Kai Sha, paying the $500 application fee yet without an interview chance. I think ICS arrangement is so much better, though the fee is double. ICS applicants are required to submit a $1000 cheque when you attend the interview.

Interview係要成本（admin staff ，老師等）
咁係screening for interview 呢一步駛唔駛請人做？都有成本
Esf咁多人報 admission website maintenance 都要錢？admission staff send email俾你都要出糧？

先唔講人地esf清清楚楚寫明not guarantee interview，讀得國際學校每月要俾接近或多於 1萬不如唔好因為計較個500/1000/幾千既報名費而動氣啦

積極搵另一間in你小朋友吧啦

國際學校係私校第時要問你拎錢都大把名目同機會。。

其實申請時已經寫得好清楚唔係保證有得interview, 自己冇睇清楚而為五百蚊咁動氣，就應諗清楚係咪可以玩國際學校呢個遊戲。

前排咁停課法，國際學校學費咁貴，唔知會唔會又嘈學校要退回部份學費，其實不如報番津校，會比較適合。

The price of esf is affordable among IS. If you need to pay 500k for esf, i dont think the teaching quality is worth.

My kid had been attending esf playgroup for 1 year and now studying in other IS.

I agree 500k is rather expensive. However, also the playgroup teachers are not the same as the esf kindergarten teachers. They are either teachers from elsewhere or just teaching assistants sometimes.

Some of them are TA and I did attend the school tour during the normal school day. Also heard some complaints from existing parents.

國際學校application fee係普遍貴，其中一個原因佢地唔想太多人申請，増加太多行政工作，如果有心讀才申請，interview都普遍觀察得仔細花時間，又要安排school visit 所以一般不能in太多人。
不過如果喜歡local一套，全民皆報全民皆in, 去到人山人海走馬看花，咁真係揀local school比較適合。
止乃文化差異，講清講楚冇咩公唔公平。

其實俾左第一次application fee，如果無interview，係會直接入插班waiting list, 有位嗰時就會call interview. 但local school插班要每年再報，咪仲煩？

我仔係one-form報Y1，無得in，已講明自動入waitlist，不用再交報名費，但要更新資料。應該ESF插班都一樣，俾一次錢，排到有位就in。當然如果Y6開學前都未有，應該就無，$2000無得退

可能新安排，N咁多年前係年年清。500元抽次獎咁。不過佢唔係selective，in晒全部人又如何，根本後面果d唔會有位。

I agree. I'd rather they only offer an interview if there was an actual place. I've had an experience of interviewing for another Kindy for PN class where they interviewed everyone but I actually could tell they had no intentions of accepting my child as all the small Bs were grouped together.

$500 application fee is not expensive so far. I know several kids already received K1 offer from esf kindergarten this week. They have siblings priority. You have to prepare to apply other international kindergarten if you don’t have any priority.

The quote stated the long standing policy of all ESF schools, i.e. paying of application fees do not always guarantee an interview. It is not the first day this policy is implemented.

今年好難，朋友有passport報hillside話有得In, 但講明都只是waiting list, 另一個local passport直呈冇得in.

This is the rule of the game. Application fee for year 1 for all international schools are way more expensive than this $500. Interviews are never guaranteed. There are more people willing to be obliged to the rule of this game when you found it unacceptable.

ESF$500真係好平了，以下各校application fee, 全部不保証有得in, 也講明冇得退：
Kellet $2000
CIS $2500
GSIS $3700
SIS $3000
FIS $2000
Harrow $1500
CDNIS $2350
看來樓主真不適合玩國際學校呢個遊戲

大女- 兔女，in 咗hillside, 8月開學前突然call PM offer (最後我哋無要位）

細仔 - 龍仔，有Call 同去interview，同大女一樣，講到明 in 到都係 waitlist, 最後無位

真係越來越難有位
