Not only does phonics help one's pronunciation but it also helps one's spelling. I think show and tell helps enhance fluency and confidence. So they are really two different things. But if your kid feels RWI boring, you may try another phonics system or it may be the matter of teacher too. You have to figure out the reason behind.
