Hello,

My son just got an offer at KCIS. We are struggling whether we should change him to KCIS. He is currently at KIS. He likes KIS and enjoys going to school. The teachers at KIS seem to be quite nice.

All advice and comments are welcome. Thank you.

Actually I have similar problem as you, my son got offers from both schools, would you mind tell me some good things/ information about KIS? Why your child loves KIS so much? I also concern their secondary schools, do you know the secondary part of KIS? Thanks a lot

Actually I don't know much about secondary section. Purely based on last year's School Year Book the number of students in secondary section is much less than the primary section. Their public exam results are not as good as KCIS secondary.

I am not too sure why my child loves KIS. May be the teachers are good.

I guess since the current principal took office about 2 or 3 years ago, he has done a lot to attract more students.

I know one of the kis kid changed to KCIS earlier too but never heard KCIS kid going to kis yet .

Recently met two different moms.  Both with kids in KCIS and just transferred to other schools last year.  According to them, KCIS is less like IS in some ways and more like LS (in terms of academics and teacher's demand/pressure/continuous testing, etc).  I have friends who transferred to KCIS from LS, kids had no problem.  But for parents who expect truly IS operation and atmosphere may find it otherwise.

I hv no opinions on whether it's good or bad.  Just depends on what you are looking for. KCIS is thru train, yet one of my friends preferred to transfer her child to a school that is not (but a true IS with less HW, less demanding and less pressure from teachers).  My other friend whose kids were from very typical high pressured LS adjusted extremely well, on the other hand.

E.g. I just bumped into a Singapore IS parent.  One child in grade 6 and the other 2 or 3 years younger.  Has been with SIS from the start.  She is thinking about leaving coz always has exams, tests, etc going on.  E.g. exam right after Xmas so they always spend Xmas holidays preparing for it.  I do not know the detailed operation of KCIS, but from what I gathered (didn't ask for details - friends only said more high pressured compared to their existing schools), could be similar.  If you are used to a local school environment or you actually prefer to have more pressure on the child, it is probably nothing.  I couldnt take it not because of my kids, coz I personally can't take the pressure myself - since that would mean me doing their hw together and studying with them.

你形容得超級好啊！唔知直情以為你形容緊我，好貼切。我哋喺本地傳統女校轉去KCIS。之前係生存，而家係生活。其實之前LS係考完試先聖誕，但係今年都轉左聖誕之後考試。所以你入學前以為搵曬資料，佢每一年都可以轉。
就好似你咁講，我唔想小朋友好似甩繩馬騮，點都要有禮貌，尊師重道，適量功課難免，過分抄寫就唔好。
所以我覺得KCIS啱啱好。中文大約一兩日一次功課， 10分鐘做得晒。默書范圍唔多，但係主要生字都全部要識。按程度分班，你鍾意谷又得，唔谷都得。
我轉校之前，都留意到有好多學校，唔係好講紀律，好free，我覺得小朋友喺香港呢個地方，學中文會容易啲，所以我揀一間中文程度同LS一樣的學校，但最緊要冇壓力。
最後，可能仲係初小，year 4. 測驗考試真係唔使點溫。

I never feel any pressure from KCIS on the academic end. The Chinese subject teacher may be comparatively demanding; and Chinese HW is on daily basis. But for other subjects, there is no real pressure so far.

韓國國際學校本應係服務韓國在港僑民.而家就係韓國人唔滿意學校方針所以開fb揭黑材料.

好奇一問，如果學校可以證明已經全部報名韓藉學生都收，會唔會可以豁免呢？因為收生不足辦學應該會有困難，亦不利於韓國學生。
但地契應該會有限制要非牟利營運？有人知道多D關於levy消息嗎？

其實 KIS 同日本國際學校一樣也分本地和國際部, 收番僑民一定唔夠學生，韓國和日本政府 signed contract with HK govt directly, 所以學費平過其他 IS. 而家韓國家長是投訴 Saturday class 是 under Korean chamber舉辦借 KIS 校舍, 但是收益歸 Korean chamber ! 個 chairman 韓國女士管理 KIS 的已拉去坐監因為動用韓國政府给 KIS 的資金去私有用等等，帳簿唔透明度又唔幫老師申請香港工作證，所以請埋D只是有 HKID card 嘅老師在 local section! 所以示威真的有用的！韓國朋友個仔在KIS 讀講到好激氣轉了去國際部讀，個校長從 FIS 過去 KIS, 聽好多人講呢個校長對教育非常有熱誠，我老闆個囡在 FIS 讀，當時校長離開FIS家長們也很失望！

Hello! Did you leave KIS and go to KCIS?

I heard KIS has a good local standard in chinese language and taught in traditional chinese characters. It is not a popular international but seems the kids are truly happy there.

1. 我知有英文數學+英文作文，50 mins？
2. 英作係就咁一條題目然後自己作？邊類題目？幾多字？

其實每個月只需俾學費，無其他雜費，如果特別event可能俾1,2佰……
要另外買教課書，Y1大約$1,000

課外活動不一定要參加, 但學校就主張你參加一兩樣!
教科書係佢成年上學用的, 有中文, 英文, science and social study etc. 另外課堂都會畀啲工作紙
每個星期都會游水，其實個水好淺，佢哋純粹去玩，所以不用擔心！

KIS is one of very few IS in HK that offers special program for SEN students. It's very small class (only 10 students) with 1 teacher and 2 assistant teachers.

有冇家長可以分享一下KIS上堂的情況及功課？我之前參觀KCIS，可以在課室外看到學生上課的情況，分組坐，學生都有紀律及投入課堂聽講或堂課。
但參觀KIS時，校長只帶家長參觀一些設施，又恰巧有家長在會客室時問好多問題，所以冇乜時間行學校，睇唔到課室情況。

我小朋友而家讀緊Year 1, 功課量唔多, 每逄星期三就派功課回家,星期一交.韓文及西班牙文,暫時無功課需要做.
至於上堂方面,佢地都係分group坐的, 5-6人一組

普通話 - 每星期三堂韓文 - 每星期一堂 (規定)
西班牙文 - 每星期一堂 (規定)

*呢個安排直至YEAR 3之後,就可以選修(韓文/西班牙文) - 即是二選一
