我會填 the，因為有指定係咩 Ceremony。如果就咁 __ ceremony，我會用 a。

I am not sure. 如果只 ceremony, 一定用 a，如果是 45th annual ceremony, 一定用 the。但 prize-giving ceremony 相當 generic 吓，我會用 a。

Generic 係「泛指」。呢度意思係個頒獎典禮係咪普通頒獎典禮，定係學校重視嘅一年一度果種頒獎典禮。
大細階會影響是否 generic。細階 father mother，可以指任何人嘅父母，例如 “Anna says mother is your best friend”，就代表每一個人嘅媽媽都係自己密友，但係如果你寫 "Anna says Mother is your best friend"，就係指定「我」媽媽係所有人嘅密友，而非其他媽媽。

所以如果係 Prize-Giving Ceremony 係大階的話，就代表係有指定性。如果係細階 prize-giving ceremony，就好可能代表個頒獎典禮冇咩特別，典禮一個。

簡單 d 可以咁睇， "The students are going to the hall this Friday for the Ceremony." 同 “The students are going to the hall this Friday for a ceremony.”。

I think i know why. I focused more on how it "sounded" like. You focused more on how it "looked" like.

咁呢度係一段文字，自然係 look like 然後才 sound like 去判斷答案。如果 sound like 的話，冇大細階之分，自然 a、the 都得。

If we evaluate the sentence based on how it sounds like, I would argue "a" is more appropriate. But since it is a written sentence on the forum, I would probably agree with you.
