My only concern not to send my kids to IS is the Chinese language requirement of HK govt jobs.
Can anyone clear my doubt? Thank you.

At the meantime, one has to pass the CRE exam if he/she did not attend DSE Chinese language exam, in order to be a civil servant.

CRE Chinese exam isn't that difficult. Someone in my family, who moved overseas after P.3, passed it without any preparation. He speaks Cantonese fluently and reads ok but cannot write many Chinese words.

May I know how long ago your family member took the CRE exam?

The CRE exam changed a lot after 1997, I don't think Chinese is easy anymore.

In addition, if you want to apply for senior grade Govt post (i.e. AO, EO), after you pass the CRE paper exam, you need to participate the 2nd part CRE exam - Chinese writing and English writing.

You will become the qualified candidate for AO/EO application after you pass both Part 1 and Part 2 test.

He took it in 2011.

I myself took the test too around that time (I left HK before taking HKAL), and worked in the civil service for a while. I don't think there's a part 2 CRE Chinese paper. I think you mean the recruitment test when you apply for a specific post? (Yes, there's an essay test for AO and some other professional grade jobs.)

I really don't think the exam is difficult, in the sense that you don't need to go through the local school Chinese curriculum in order to do well. I feel that it's more like the Verbal Reasoning part of the GMAT test, but written in Chinese.

IB 中英文A，是第一語言程度，應該不用擔心考唔到 CRE 。
