we just moved back to HK, was thinking to send my 2 y o son to the pn school.
any idea for the kindergarten of small world, woodland and rightmind.

Have visited both small world and right mind. Totally different schools. Small world is more child centred and focus on child's dev while rightmind is flash card using to make children memorise words. My child has been in woodland. Don't want to disclose to much here but is is totally disappointing.
Suggest you go and visit by yourself

4k books fee for one term is really too much!!
Any other comments apart from unreasonable school related costs? Do you think they teach well and you kid is more disciplined?

The RMK campus is in the basement of a residential building with not many windows or natural lights.
Very depressing withpoor air ventilation.
Tiny campus with no outdoor playground at all.

Apparently the teachers there were too pushy.

Don't worry, it's a true blessing in disguise.
The RMK was not suitable for my child, glad that we made the decision of leaving immediately.
My child got in a much more relaxing kindy and a very good international primary after.

Would you mind sharing which kindy and intl school your child went to in the end? Curious as I'm also considering Rightmind for PN. Thanks.

Did you place deposit at rightmind at the end?
I also have PN offer and am undetermined so just placed deposit first as it is close to my home which is important for 2-year-old kid.

Yes I put down a deposit as well. Have a few more interviews coming up so let's see how it goes. Rightmind is actually quite far for me but I've heard good things about the school, especially for PN.

Do we need to teach our kid cantonese at home as they only learn eng and pth in school?
Also the school is very commercial.. and not sure the impact of flashcards/memory type of learning to young kids is good or bad..

The teachers are supposed to be very good and it seems to be a good mix of structure/discipline and freedom to learn. Not like the typical rote learning style. I'm not a huge fan of flashcards either but they're only for a few min each day so it's not a huge part of it.
I assume the kid will learn canto if you speak it at home and we do live in HK so I'm sure they'll pick it up. The Chinese program at Rightmind is supposed to be very good, so writing and reading won't be an issue. It used to be the feeder for ISF until ISF started its own kg.
It is a bit commercial but then which kg isn't. There's no perfect school, just need to find one that you're happy with.

Yeah small world, woodland and rightmind are all commercial.
Those more local ones like creative, cannan and precious blood are considered less commercial kg.

This is the very first time I ever heard that Small World is described as "commercial". My son graduated there and there has never been any hint of such feeling in me and my wife at all.

Small World is the best kindergarten I met. No bad comment about SWCK. The principal, admin staff, teachers and even cleaners are very nice and caring. You really can feel kind of love in this school. But one thing is this is English base and you shouldn't expect there's good Chinese learning.

They all can speak English fluently, but, Chinese is a joke. If you have an expectation in Chinese, you need to find a Chinese learning center.

我喺k2時有安排中文補習班俾仔。
係，大部分升上ICA （80%）,但唔係保證直升。佢地比較鍾意收持外國護照的學生。

I went to the Sham Wan campus once. It seems to me like a clinic or a laboratory more, so it gave me an impression that it's using some kinda scientific or high-tech pedagogy.

可能今年龍年，學位比較緊張啫。好多學生有其他國際offer,便會放棄ICA. 所以你也不用緊張。

我仔仔唔上ICA了，我們沒有international passport. 我們仍然在waitlist.

可能，佢地覺得我個仔唔適合ICA. 不過SWCK真係一間好好的幼稚園。即使Ica冇收我個仔，我一點也沒有後悔讓他在這讀書。

ICA told me that my son pass the interview. 但今年太多人apply,所以暫時俾唔到個位我。

I'm very surprised to see arts and craft material etc as an extra cost to be paid for (on your list), as surely that should have been included in the monthly school fees!
