My vote goes to Tonbridge School. It is an excellent school in terms of academic result, university destination and extra-curricular activities. You won't regret to join this school. Congratulations again to your son.

Forgot to mention one more point. Its pastoral care is also very good. You can count on the school to look after your son.

My vote goes to Tonbridge also, for sure. To me, Brighton is not a desirable boarding city, particularly for the upper form students who may hangout with peers during weekend. The crime rate is higher than UK average. The notorious drug issue & large homosexual population is also a concern.

My order of preference would be Tonbridge, Abingdon, Brighton & Shrewsbury.
But a scholarship does look good on the CV and certainly carries some weight when it comes to university application!

Congratulation to you and your son! All four are very good and top-tier boarding schools in UK that are not easy to get in. Your son must have been doing brilliantly in his studies.
Like others, Tonbridge is obviously my first choice. It is top of the top, and in terms of reputation and quality, equivalent to Eton and Harrow. I won't consider others if my son got an offer.
Abingdon comes next, and Brighton and Shrewsbury are about the same. Between the last two, I prefer Shrewsbury for its quiet and deep English culture in the rural area of western England. Good for students to focus on study, especially for students of Years 12 and 13 who need to prepare for AL exam.
