She used you. Regarding the title of your post, I think she was very crafty and you were too innocent. Many HK parents try to take advantage (搵著數) whenever possible, and you were an unfortunate victim this time.

I wouldn't conclude she cheated you or you being naive. But I would say that you were being kind and helpful to have gone out of your way to help her out of kindness, just like when you responded to parents questions here or gave professional advice, without material gain. I assumed that she wanted to have lessons with you but changed her mind later. She could have approached a few teachers at the same time and decide later through which teacher to buy the oboe and with who to take lessons, this we don't know. If she had withdrawn and not buying through you, you may have felt differently as she hadn't saved $10,000 and you wouldn't have felt used but your effort has been spent just the same. I do believe it is not nice and plain irresponsible of her not to respond to you.

You were being kind. She owes you a thankyou and an explanation. Take it as a service you provide for your potential student, does it make you feel better?

I feel sorry for you too, you're being very kind to your students. I hope you won't stop trusting people as not all parents are like that.

Not surprising.
經常收到好多電話問專業意見，問買琴，幾歲學樂器，點樣報名考試，演奏級考試模式，如何選曲，學生學習路向，校際音樂節比賽詳情，比賽型式規則等等。最長電話傾過半小時。如果有時間可以答下家長，很多人打來未必真心想學，只是攞資料。我盡量都會答，不排除有些會回頭的學生。試過有成人學生想電話whatsapp 問考試演奏級選曲及樂譜，或者只上一堂試堂就要選全部考試曲，這很明顯是套資料，這些我會禮貌地拒絕。
