My son applied through the SEN application back in Sept last year and been advised his application is placed on waiting list. He has social and communication skills issues and is currently taking SLT sessions offered by the kindergarten. School has informed us that the ARP will assess my son in the upcoming month or two. Would like to know if once the assessment is completed and he is diagnosed with requiring Learning Support, is the wait list long? He is currently in K2, trying to locate a Y1 spot. Meanwhile, I need to open up my other options as I know even an assessment by the ARP cannot guarantee me a place into the primary. Would be grateful if anyone can share their experiences. Thanks.

Depending on which ESF school you are applying for and if you have any priorities ( siblings, NR holder?), also what level of support is needed ( I think they have systematically levelled them to 3-4 levels).

Thanks mross38,
If I don't have any other priority other than being an ESF kindy student, does it make it hard to secure a seat? Do you know if it is common that they don't offer a place even after the assessment? Thanks.

No first hand experience. SEN application is placed in a separate pool and there is nothing to do with catchment area. Depending on priority and whether the need can be addressed with resources available, esf will give out LSC places. If you have specific questions can email SEN coordinator.
They should have told you to apply to mainstream as well just in case your kid is assessed to be level 1 or 2 and does not need an LSC place.
