My son is so lucky to get the first round interview for SJS year 1. I am very worried as my son is very shy boy and he can't talk much esp. to adults. Definitely, he speaks and listens 100% English at home. I am afraid he will not be willing to answer any questions during the interview.
And, anybody knows what kind of questions they would ask for parents. Thanks.

Really No need to worry ,Sjs 會將你個小朋友同同班同學arrange interview at the same group ,your kids 99.9% will pass the interview.學校只會問家長幾個簡單日常問題，記住Sjs 的interview 吾係想考你小心朋友今到你入吾到，因為你小朋友係冇其他competitor ,只要你小朋友meet 到standard 就收，同RC 係好大分別

Attend the info session on 8/12, it tells you how the interview is conducted. The kids from ESF kindergarten will be grouped together in the interviews so the kids a re familiar with each other and the teachers will have a way to get shy children to talk. Don't worry. If he is already in ESF kindergarten I'm sure he will be comfortable enough to speak during the interview. All the best!!! I'm very nervous too.

Apparently (hear and say) RC seems to concentrate on academics ability more than SJS. They will prefer kids that can already read and write, which are skills that were not specifically taught or drilled in ESF kindergarten. They also have alarmed intake of St Cat's students, so

I will say smarter kids will have definitely advantages.

I would say SJS is a non selective school but RC is heading to the direction of a selective school.

其實好多人係baby kingdom 問過讀吾讀ESF kinder 好，覺得ESF kinder 冇嘢學，我之前不定答他們如果想入ESF 小學101%要 take ESF kinder offer

I have no idea for that. As I know, only 4 students in my son's class were invited for interview.

My girl also is not at ESF kinder and has a chance of interview in Kennedy School for the reserve list. Frankly, English is not our native language but she can communicate in English. Wonder if she still can pass the coming interview. If they only choose the native speaker, then my girl is hopeless.

不是好彩，也是好彩。每間學校有自己條隊。前面有priority的申請人較少，后面的理所當然排得較前。好彩的，仍是他在他同一priority(or冇任何priority)一群，隨機號碼較前，所以好彩有得in。

You can find out from the letter whether your daughter has a chance or not.

I think fluent in English is a must, otherwise it will be very difficult for your child to catch up in the class while most of the classmates are native in ESF school.

They don't require you to speak in an English accent but you must be able to speak in complete long sentences. E.g What do you do last weekends? You cannot answer 'go to park, play, read a book, go to the beach' etc. Must answer in complete sentences. If your kid is able to speak in long constructed sentences then will sure pass the interview. The interviewers are usually principal and V.P. and they can make your child talk.

You still have time to train her. If you cannot meet their English requirement at first interview but still show some proficiency in English, they may ask you to go home and polish her English and then go back for a second interview one month later. I knew it happened to quite a lot of my son's classmates last year. The school also invited parents for a formal discussion about their children weaknesses and helped them to improve. I knew some of the kids went for intensive English lessons and took the Cambridge tests to prove their English proficiency. At last, all of them got an offer from the school.

She has no problem at all about following instruction but I don't think she would answer question in full sentence in every scenario

I have a friend (Indian) whose girl did not pass the interview because of her mispronunciations of certain words, poor grammar and incomplete sentences. She had to go for a second interview and got in.

Try to emphasise the school community. They are looking for families who can contribute to the school community like volunteering at school. As parents, should let the partner with better English be the speaker, just in case....

Thanks for your information! That's right, let the one who speaks fluent English to talk more given they have the part of interviewing parents. Just wonder what kinda kids could have failed the interview? Your Indian friend is lucky I would say.

Similar to the other school, parents' commitment to school counts?

其實學校真係好吾想Fail小朋友,佢地會比second in 機會,佢地啲interview吾係考試又吾係考Smart 吾smart
我自已相信interview父母個part影響超微,校長只問了兩條questions, less than 5 minutes

I got an interview chance from DC, but no interview from RC. Also I got an interview for reserve list from QBS. I don't know why but the interviews from DC and QBS are on the same date.

I m sorry I don't know. I just know that all students (5 students in our class) in our class had interview chance who were accepted by SJS successfully.

Kindergarten priority is the same for applying any primary (it is a matter of your residental address in which catchment area, not which kindergarten you come from). The only disadvantage is that most probably your child will not meet any classmate during the interview.
