有這分數係must 但明顯不是必收你。

hey i got 5 star (highest grade) in AL UE writing and my english writing has been widely complimented. i hv studied and worked in europe. i love teaching and i like enthusiastic students. reply if interested ;)

呢位網友，你唔知就唔好亂 up，點可能靠 IELTS 報大學？
一定係要 DSE ， IB ， AL ， AP ，等正規高中課程／考試有高分先上到 medi 或 law，
考 IELTS 只係測驗學生能否用英語上堂／溝通，和高中冇關，
莫講話 7 分十分 "一般"，就算有 >8 都冇可以取代 DSE ，
其實，我忍口好耐，好多時你真係好亂嚟。

Admission requirement for English language來說， IELTS 7 分已“可”經non-jupas入medi 同 law, 不用其他英文考試成績。

教師語文能力評核（簡稱LPAT，是英語Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers的縮寫），又稱為基準試，是香港語文科老師入職前的評核考試。根據規定，新入職的英語老師入職前考試成績要達到基準，即所有科目的平均等級不能低於第3級，而當中只容許有一張卷的等級最低為2.5級。否則，來年不能任教有關科目。在 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 學術模式整體分級取得 6.5 或以上，並在同一次考試中各項個別分級取得不低於 6 的人士，在考試成績的兩年有效期內，其 IELTS 成績可獲接納為等同綜合招聘考試英文運用試卷的二級成績 ,咁可以有能力做老師?(錯解請更正)

讀醫一定要是人，但是人不是一定可以讀醫。

你除了在EK收料，最好認認真真上大學網頁仔細睇請楚，太多啱 d唔啱 d的資料，好易害人害己！

Oh come on. Not again.
IELTS is only used as an additional admission requirement for students to prove that they can communicate and learn in English. Basically, all DSE students have taken English and they do not have to write IELTS.
As most local IB students take English A, IELTS is also not necessary.
IELTS is mainly used for students from countries like China, Japan, Spain, etc. If they have not taken high school English, they need to proof their English ability with IELTS.
In short, for local students, IELTS can not be used to replace DSE English or IB English.
No need to tell me someone is now in HKU LLB with IB English B. Consider she is lucky. This short cut may not always work.

You are talking about the UK right?
Since in the US and Canada, medicine and law are post grad entry.

Note that IELTS is only an "addition admission requirement" to proof you can learn and communicate in English.

IELTS is only required for most universities in the UK and Canada from students that does not have English as a first language. Technically, most students from international school and students with IB English A do not need to write IELTS (please check individual university website).
Most universities first consider high school grades plus predicted grades. If you have low DSE English or low IB English A grades, you will not even get pass the first stage or medicine and law programs. So even if you get perfect 9 with IELTS, I do not think it will help much.
Remember these programs are extremely competitive. Of course, may be just slightly less competitive then Med and Law in Hong Kong. But they are still extremely competitive. They simply have too many applicants to choose from.
Note that the requirements of SAT at US universities are slightly different. Many US universities do screen applicants with SAT first. Then, the second stage is high school grades plus predicted grades etc. However, SAT is a very different exam. It is much harder and should not be used to compared to IELTS.
To sum up, students should not expect IELTS can help much.

Just a bit of comparison for everyone.
I personally know 2 students, both got 8.5 with IELTS.
Both got only 5 with English A (one took Lit, one took Lang & Lit).
Up to you to judge whether 7 with IELTS is good enough for medicine or law.

In HK IELTS alone satisfies the English language requirements for university entrance for non-jupas applicants.

In the UK IELTS is highly valued by the universities that enables one to be admitted to study law and medicine degrees provided that the results of one's other non-language subjects are high enough.

尋晚看雜誌，講9A李適x，幼自園是活動性教學，小學傳统女校，不斷努力，早上5時起狀溫習英文，才有今日成果，所以成績靠努力!

其實真想八下那个个別例子除了IELTS還有其他因素嗎, 之前港大書面回覆過只考慮IB Eng A

do you have any idea comparing points of sat1 with ib eng a/b?

does sat1has any predictable valve with grades in ib eng a/b? for eg, if a student got 650 points on sat 1, what would you expect his/her grade in ib eng?

DSE students have to provide IELTS result if they apply for UK Universities.
