小女兒 IB 取 41/45，之前 Durham LLB 已取錄她，但上星期五突然收到 CUHK email (之前無叫她 interview)，俾 LLB offer 佢，還有 $21,000 scholarship.

想請教大家意見，因 CUHK LLB 比較新。另外，她有報 HKU LLB 和 Govt&Law，未有 interview，請問大家知唔知 HKU 那邊收生情況？謝謝!

If your daughter want to pursue her future career as solicitor or bar in HK, better study LLB in HK (be that is CU/HKU/CityU). Cause better chance to secure PCLL place.

如果world ranking 應該是 HKU -- Durham --CU, 但香港讀就不用再報考PCLL conversion. 至於PCLL機會, 都是一樣, 只有一半機會. even HKU, CU, City U

Despite the disadvantage on PCLL, international law firms prefer UK graduates over local. It is what told by my friend working in an international law firm in HK. Durham is a strong UK law school.

Yes，Durham ranks No. 3 ，just after Oxford and Cambridge.Since it is not near London， many HK parents are not familiar with it. It is really famous in UK and among the law professionals.

個人意見：Durham, 小朋友有機會見識下外面世界，跟不同國籍高手學生交流，相信眼光會不一樣。不用不擔心PCLL問題，在Durham讀得好一樣有機會，朋友兒子將入讀CU PCLL, 他在英國的大學排名不及Durham

totally agree. Durham is an excellent university.

My friend's daughter is in Durham studying PPE. She is so happy there.

If I am in your shoes, I would choose Durham instead. The career choices in H K and overseas are much wider even not staying in Law field.

If your daughter takes Durham, she has to take conversion exam, around 7 papers for Durham graduates. There is a risk she might not be able to complete them before graduation. However if your daughter aims at magic cicle firms or city firms later on, Durham gives a better preparation. Most, if not all, magic circle firm trainees I've come across are native or close to native English speakers. They are not just fluent.

講個例子你參考，識得一個小朋友在HKU讀了一年law後轉到英國頂尖學府再由year 1 讀起，同樣讀law，小朋友覚得HKU教法唔適合自己，詳情我唔識講番因我唔熟悉。去到英國小朋友如魚得水，發揮得好好，化表學府出外比賽，學府仲寫了封嘉許信給母校。我不知道這類信是否好普通，但我就替小朋友覚得好鼓舞。

She got 41 points in IB, no need to worry about conversion, law conversion is not that hard, most people can pass all the exams (even you can retake it if you fail). If school fee is a problem, then CUHK will be the choice. If not, why not let your daughter to see the world?

Grade inflation is only seen in non-professional degrees.

For a subject like Law from a reputable university like Durham with it's long list of illustrious alumni in legal professions I think this is a moot point.

A Durham LLB is held in high esteem if not more so than one from HKU esp with international firms.

Thanks for your advice.

I also don't think the conversion test will be a problem to her. Our concern is mainly the relatively less chance of getting a PCLL place with an overseas degree, as compared with a local LLB graduate. This is the problem faced by my friends' kids. From the CUHK website, for the past 4 years, over 70% of their LLB graduates can enter into their PCLL programme right after graduation.

As my daughter has two years' boarding experience in an international school in HK, I'm not worried with her English fluency, independence, exposure and global perspective. College fee should not be a problem.

Yes, it is fair to let the local law students have priority in getting PCLL places.
We are in the same shoes as you 3 years ago.  My daughter took the DSE and has offers from both HKU and UCL Law school.

We have chosen HKU instead of UCL as we are worry that it is hard to get a PCLL place.  My daughter may be a bright student for DSE but we do not know whether she will be a bright Law student as they are totally different programs.

You should not worry about international exposures if you choose local uni for Law degree. Take my daughter as an example, she has participated in many international moots (held both locally and overseas) in the last 3 years.  This Sep, she will go to a UK Uni for her final year in LLB as a visiting student.  Then she will be back to HK for PCLL.

For the HKU law students, if the academic results meet the exchange program criteria, most of the Law students will spend up to 1 year at overseas uni during their 4 or 5 year program.

However, I have no idea about CU Law school.  It is harder to choose between CU / Durham then HKU / UCL imo.

如果是HKU的話, 一定選HKU LLB, 因為HKU提供的PCLL位是最多的.
如果是CU and Durham, 還有時間慢慢騐.
其實可以再問HKU甚麼時候有offer
