Do you encounter below before?
Freetime suddenly disappears from the menu bar

I called the support team which gave me a very very disappointing answer - Only some countries can use Freetime. HK is not allowed to use it so FT is removed from my account.

I am very disappointed after one hour call with Amazon to get this answer. If FT is not allowed, why did they sell to me since day 1 and FT is already included?
Note: I ordered directly from Amazon and delivered to HK. They should know since day 1 that I ordered from HK. If I know this on day 1, I would consider to return the device and get refund.

I have complained to Amazon and waiting for their reply.

If you have similar experience, please share how to deal with it.

I got the final reply from Amazon management that HK is confirmed that FreeTime is not available at this moment.
I post here to avoid more sufferers like me if you heavily rely on FreeTime.

FreeTime allows you to create profiles for your kids, say 2 kids John and Mary.
You can add different books to John and Mary, set different reading goals, say 15 mins per day. Kids account can't go to Kindle store to buy books online.
Each kid has own reading records, such as how much time they read on every day, what vocabularies they look up, total how many pages they have achieved.
With FreeTime, I can understand roughly how well my kids are reading.
If John and Mary read the same book, they have own bookmarks, highlights and notes so they can read independently for the same book.
Sometimes I can also read the books bought for kids without interfering their reading.
Without FT, all the above features are taken away.
You can go to Amazon website to see how they sell FT features but they never mention FT is only available for some countries.

I see. What you described sounds too much workload and I would rather talk to my kids to see what they want to read and personally check their reading progress/status.

Since I want my kids to be an independent reader, I don't want to check and I don't have time to check but FT offers simple ways to check. This is one of the reason why I bought it.

If your kids have their own machine, they can read together, there won't be arguments on whose reading time it is now, how come you skipped my pages, why you delete my books, I want this book in this folder instead of that blah blah blah. Most importantly, they can both read more.

My kids use the most basic model, quite inexpensive and it's worth every penny.

Your suggestion looks attractive but I have to suffer $$ again
But can the kindle books be downloaded to 2 devices with one purchase?
You use one account to register, right?
If I use Kindle Paperwhite and my kid use a basic Kindle to read the same books, why the reading records are not overridden? Sorry for so many questions , thx A-mum!

Yes, myless6, our kindles are registered under one account so we can read the same book together. You can also explore amazon's Family Library function. It allows a few accounts to be linked together and books can be shared. But not sure if it's supported in HK.

To save battery, we turn off the kindles' Wi-Fi connection when not downloading books so reading records across machines will not be affected. When you turn on the Wi-Fi, you will be asked if you want to get syned to xxx, just say no and everything stays the same.

Our first generation Kindle 3 is now still fully functional after 4 or 5 years of heavy use. If your kids enjoy reading with the kindle, really you should buy one more. We have 4! 😁

A-Mum, I am actively considering your suggestion. Do you know what's the major difference between Basic Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite?
I focus on features related to kids reading.

Hi A-Mum, good news!!
Last night, I tried to de-register and register the device again. FreeTime is back!! I have restored the profiles and disconnect from wifi forever. Hopefully I can use this plan. Thanks again for your support. Also thanks Huba for helping!

Sorry Mylee6, didn't see your post until now. Congrats! Hope it will keep working!
If you need to choose another kindle in future, you can study their spec at Amazon.com and try them out in the shops. I believe some shops display different models for customers to try out.
