Anyone with the experience being asked to submit the edu-psych assessment report for application to proceed at ESF primary?
Applied for Year2 and after meeting with the principal and vice principal, they said my child may require more support hence will need the report in order to apply for special needs supports from the ESF center.
Anyone with the similar experience? How would you do?

Yes year 2 at the mainstream ESF school.

Classes with SEN students will get extra resources (more teachers/EA/Specialist). Maybe thats the reason why the school ask for official reports for supporting.

My boy has ASD but he managed to get in ESF mainstream with no problems through Year 1 interview. He is graduating from Year 6 and getting to ESF secondary after summer holiday.
He has educational psychologist (EP) assessment privately done before the application. The psychologist's advise was that my boy had improved so much with treatment/training, no need to disclose to school beforehand. Otherwise, the application will be stuck in the process as there are so many students waiting to get in, why be bothered to admit someone who needs special care. Except if the child has severe disability, they'll get your child to queue up for the ESF special needs school Sarah Roe and that's a different story.

My boy's Year 1 teacher found that he's a bit clumsy and some issues with socialization (no problems academically) and asked me about it. I then told her the story. They gave him very good support from the special needs department. I then found out that there are various kids with different special needs like dyslexia, ADHD, ASD etc. my boy is not the only 1 at all. I guess their problems are not very obvious that can be picked by the ESF staffs during their interview.

However, in your child's case, if it's picked by the principal/VC, I think that the chance that your child can get in is slim. They ask you for the EP report so they can use it to tell you that they are sorry, they don't have the resources to take care of your child at the moment and your child can be on the waiting list forever.

I am not sure if your child has an EP assessment already. If so, you may as well submit it and see how it goes. My boy had 1 done which cost $8000 7 years ago. I heard that it has gone up to $10,000 to $30,000 already for a decent EP report that ESF would accept. If your child has not done it yet, not sure if you would want to spend that amount of money for that purpose.

Anyway, I hope that your child can get in a good school that is suitable.

Don't be sad and discourage at this stage. I have a positive feel about ESF in this case. If that report is required, you may do it privately. It costs at least 9000 now. It's good to know if your child has anything special who need special needs at an earlier stage.

STEP? Heep Hong? It doesn't seem CAC provide such service. My boy is going to see the govt Psychiatrist (after lining up for a year!) next month. Have not ever heard about govt EP service. Thanks.

I don't think the school wants to turn you down if they asked you for a report on your child's needs. On the contrary, they are serious in hoping to give him the appropriate support once he starts in the school. I think if you are not submitting the report, they will not proceed with your application.

As parent I do think you should find out the needs of your child no matter going to ESF school or not for his long term benefit.

Yes SSCHIU.We have sibling priority, and in fact the school has gone the extra miles to help us in the process. They met me and my child several times and observed her in different settings to come out with the suggestions (which I am truly grateful for given the school has so many more bright kids to choose from).

We will be doing the EP, but I am hoping also to hear some of the parents here with similar request, your experience throughout the process.

no, I did not get this one. My boy just went to an inteview today and he got the offer for Year 2. They didn't give me this kind of form to do...

That request only for applicants they think require more supports. Not for "normal kid" 😊
