My son 13 years-old went to UK to study year 9 since last summer. He has student visa Tier 4. There were no problem passing through immigration in Heathrow for 3 times. But today he was told by immigration officer to do police registration when he arrived at boarding school. His matron helped him to call local police and its officer said there was no need for registration under 16. Any similar experience and advice ? Many thanks in advance.

首先佢有冇在護照任何地方加印，如果冇就唔好擔心，佢係immigration officer唔代表佢好識嘢，佢地都好常犯錯，警局都話唔駛就唔駛，另外VISA應有寫駛唔駛：

If it states on your visa that you need to register, then you will need to go to the Overseas Visitor Registration Office (OVRO) once you arrive in the UK.

My son was under 16 and needed to register to the local police office but his visa clearly stated that he had to register within 7 days on arrival

Thanks for above mums information. I just contacted Bristish consulate of VISA service (via telephone with charge). The lady said it is true that students under 16 have no need to do police registration.The statement could be a reminder. But she needs further information to confirm and reply me in email after 3 days.
My elder daugter has been studying in UK for 3 year without VISA problem. What a bad luck to my younger son who just went to UK for less than 1 year !

Just got the letter from the police station. It says that registration was declined because my son is under 16 and the decision has been based on advice given by the Home Office Policy Unit.

I think different police stations have different policy for student registration. I hope my experience can be useful for HK parents.
