According to my experience, kids in ESF were not encouraged to apply high schools in UK. Those higher education and career staff were not very helpful with application process (May be due to work overload). Teachers were unable to write recommendation by the rules of ESF (?). I know some ESF kids admitted to very top high schools in UK which really depends on individual talents and parents' background. ESF schools are roughly among the middle level of non-selective schools in UK. Its academic level is far behind those top schools in UK (Sorry to say the fact).

I am very surprised!!Why are they not willing to (or unable to) provide whatever assistance students need to apply to high schools in the UK? Work load? Well, this is their job duty, right? They can talk to school management and ask them to hire more people to do the job. But they cannot refuse to help!
Recommendations or reference letters, whatever they are called, are basic things that high schools or universities ask for when a student is filing an application. This is really nothing fancy. Just part of the job of the school counsellor.
So, what exactly are they willing to do?

You comments sounds really negative. And that is the total opposite of comments from most other parents who consider EFS as one of the best.

Isn't higher edu and career dept supposed to offer advice for universities and/or education beyond graduation at high school but not transferring to another high school whether it be in HK or another country?

If my comments are very negative, I welcome parents whose experiences are very positive to share their UK high schools application process in ESF.

Seems your experience was really tough with ESF.
My girl transited to a UK IB school last August. ESF was cooperative and supportive during application and transition. I am appreciated for the school and teachers' kindness.
The update good news is my daughter's senior graduated from ESF(yr 1- yr 13), who just got the full scholarship to study PHD degree in Oxford and will start the teaching job at LSE after summer. I do feel proud of her and have passed my congratulations to her parents last week. She is only 22 years old.
I agree ESF schools are not on top level in academic results. It is true they are in middle level in lower and middle school roughly. However, most of ESF students can learn, enjoy to learn, and keep learning. It is their own choice to choose how far they want to go........

Recommendations can be quite different from reference letters.
I have a friend who failed to get a "positive" recommendation letter from the IS her son studied in. I think it is not quite possible to ask a school to "recommend" a student to another school, if the student does not have the quality that deserve positive comments.

Sorry for mistake. I mean comment and not recommendation.

All ESF schools have their own character. It doesn't matter which one. It is nice to share their achievements and happy for those hard working students and parents. But no need to use the advanced achievements to define them and the schools. They are just kids grown up in very ordinary schools.
