if you really know that your son is a B2 student, then you just need to choose all B2 schools for him, as the system finish allocating places for all b2 before they start b3 allocation.

in the part a of the central allocation system (whole hk), so long as you're b2 and you choose less popular b2 schools as one of your 3 choices, you might get that less popular one! If you find that less popular one as acceptable, then it's fine.

In the part b of the system (local district only), there are the greatest number of seats to be allocated. If you were not allocated an 'acceptable' place in part a, in this part, the places would be allocated first by band, then by your lucky number. They won't start distribute band 3 students unless the band 2 are all cleared. get it?

hihi joyjoyparent    thankyou so much for your reply.you mean i dont need to put band three in the third place, but i should put all the band two schs first .
even if the thired choice is a very popular sch,it doesnt matter, because all btwo pupils arecompeting those places.   am i right?

I think you are in NT4 according to SSPA district classification.

According to the info from khmama, the total number of B2 students in NT4 of 2015 is around 1475, the number of seats of B2 schools for central SSPA allocation (exclude reserved seats) is around 930 (base on last year figure).

Assume 20% of B2 student got a seat at phase 1 (自行), there is still around 1180 B2 students need to compete for 930 B2 seats, so the seats for B2 schools are not enough to allocated for all B2 students.

The best strategy is put a few acceptable B3 schools (3-5) after putting all B2 schools.

thankyou very much for your reply.  good band two schs in yuen long is not enough.   hope everybody can get into a school that they want.

your opinion is different from joyjoyparent, like my sons teacher. put a band 3 in the third place is more safe.

In fact, my idea is same with "joyjoyparent", the difference is I suggest you put a few B3 school "after" you put ALL selectable B2 schools.

It is because there is a high chance that B2 seats are not enough in your district.

If the B2 seats are sufficient enough in your district, "joyjoyparent" idea is good.
