A little anecdote which I happened to see the other day at the Disneyland souvenir shop. I was browsing and next to me was a Caucasian family and the Daddy was telling the kids that each could pick one item. And then the daughter spoke, " what's that ting?".

i was quite surprised to hear "ting" rather than Thing.
I soon spotted the Singaporean Mommy and understood why.
