School said they are still processing the confirmed offers and will know by late March.

Sigh~ I feel sorry to your case, but the truth is many parents think that ESF is a kind of dragon school/ half-dragon school, they are not aim at IS at all. They take the ESF offer, just to treat this as a back-up for primary, and planning to apply local primary Y1 (at that time their kids are already in Y1 of IS stream), if success they will move out, if not they will stay. So it will be a bit hard to get the call waiting.

Some parents may have such a plan, but it is not a very practical plan because ESF kindergartens are really "play schools" which offer very little in terms of structured academic learning, even ESF Y1 is mainly play with no homework, hence the children will have great difficulty in adjusting back to local primary schools. Parents who attempt to do this usually send their children to 2 kindergartens, one ESF and one local, and I would say only 10% to 20% of ESF parents might try it, so it is not a major trend.

He was average. I would say other parents were so aggressive in demontrating their kids' talent while we were only sitting by the side and play with him as usual. We had 2 assessors coming by and talked to / played with my son and we just let them chat at their own...but he managed to tidy up and said goodbye to the assessors...maybe that counts...

You are correct! The staff told me that they sent out around 2x offers by e-mail last week.

Around 200 kids on the waiting list. Seems the order on the list is according to the random no.

Just wondering, will you guys try again in K2 or Y1? Even a seat is available, K2 got no priority for Y1 interview right? I found below link from KJS that Y1 becomes quite impossible now.

The parents who wrote that letter didn't really have a case, because their children enjoy either sibling or alumni priority which is higher than kindergarten priority anyway, so whether ESF removes or maintains the kindergarten priority is of little relevance to them.

While there are only 700 ESF K2 pupils, there are around 1100 Y1 places in ESF Foundation schools plus another 300 Y1 places in the two ESF PIS (RC and DC), so even if all their K2 pupils proceed to Y1 there are still many places left to give non-ESF kindergarten pupils a fair chance, however that chance will be reduced when ESF opens a new kindergarten in Tung Chung next year.

I always hear people claiming that it is "impossible" to get into ESF or even PIS Y1. If the figures FattyDaddy provided are accurate, it is quite clear that all ESF K2 kids could technically be taken by ESF/PIS.
So, what happened? Why so many parents were disappointed?
It is unfortunate that school admission is not merely numbers. ESF/PIS have no obligations to take all students from ESF K2. They can pick the kids that they believe can fit into the school.
I am ESF parent. I also have lots of PIS mom friends. I cannot claim I know a lot about Y1 admission. I do not know exactly what they are looking for either.However my observation is that ESF/PIS (besides the fact that they want kids that speak (near) native english) prefer out-going, out-spoken and cheerful kids. So there may be reasons why some ESF K2 kids get no offers from either ESF or PIS.
It is hard to say whether the judgements in deciding which kids should be given offers to be fair. After all, they are all small children and can be emotional. There can be times when a child does not perform as well. A very out spoken and smart child might simply decided not to speak to anyone (including interviewer), and thus fail an interview.
So, what is the conclusion?
School admission is never statistics. Whether it is easy to get into a school would never be dependent on the number of applicants vs the number available places. It is probably dependent of a bit of luck.
So, now what?
There is really not much you can do. Let fate take you along.
Relax, parents. ESF/PIS is never the only or best path.

Agree, number of applicants vs number of places is only a measure of probability, just a better indication than vague statements like "it is impossible" or "it is difficult".

In real life, even if probability says the chances of success is 99%, you never know if that 1% may happen to be you.

When my little one started her K1 2 years ago, there are still couple empty seats not filled in her class. A boy was able to transfered from pm class to am class a week before school started. Hope this helps.

School uses to offer all places to eligible applicants and will release the places if someone declines the offer and is not willing to pay the deposit within a short period.
For those who have already paid the deposit, but still struggling to take which offer, will not decline the offer until the last minute. There is nothing more to lose to hold the place and keep struggling until August.
There were extreme cases that parents paid the deposit, going to school for 2 weeks and then felt it was not their cup of tea and then give up and go back to local school (of course deposit was paid and place was secured) in Sep. Then some offer may come up in Sep.
