女兒學校需要選科, 正在頭痛中, 不知應不應該選 Mandarin B HL? 她今年剛從本地中學轉讀國際學校, 校極力推介中文毋語的學生選Chinese A 拿 Bilingual Diploma, 但女兒想選 Mandarin B, 因她看過Syllabus後覺得 Chinese A 好難, 課程側重文學作品的評論和比較文體, 怕要看大量書籍, 她又不太喜愛看中文書, 看文學著作有難度, 所以沒信心取高分。在她學校選Chinese A 的學生大多數是從國內來的普通話母語學生。但是, 在網上討論區又見很多人說讀 Chinese B 對將來入大學有影響, 外國人可能會認為母語是中文的學生不選 Chinese A 是不夠叻, 但女兒中文底子弱, 就算補習都未必有用! 有冇人知道有個案因為選中文為 Second Language 的影響入大學機會? 女兒將來有興趣大學選修商科或音樂。

有冇人知在那裏可找到IB 的 Pass Papers 及詳細的 Study Guide。

I have posted in another thread about my opinion. My son is studying Chinese B HL as the 4th higher level subject in IB diploma. He studied all the way in international schools. He had similar concern as your daughter when he was choosing between Chinese A SL or Chinese B HL back in year 10.
Just want to share my opinion about students with a need to choose Chinese B HL because they are not competent to choose Chinese A. Another parent or counsellor has stated in another thread about the worries of Chinese choosing Chinese B HL as one of the 3 HL subjects. In order to avoid adverse views from UK/HK/US universities, I recommend to choose Chinese B HL as the 4th HL subject. In this way, the student will have 3 other HL subjects to compare with A-level students in UK, and taking 4 HL subjects is seen as a very rigorous curriculum in the eyes of US admission officers.

Luckily my son got all 5 conditional offers from UK universities, including top universities and Oxbridge. He got conditional offer from HKU too.

I think the fact that your son has studied all the way in an international school, would be a very different situation.

我知道英國LSE認為中文B HL not rigorous enough, 亦有聽過港大面試時問學生點解選中文B HL, 學校counsellor説除了LSE其他英國大學暫時無問題，但你女兒讀本地學校不知情況會否不同，如選修音樂可能影響無商科咁大

Interesting that this is even an option. I would have thought someone educated in the LS system would sit for Chinese A?
