以下分析，於一個英國討論區看到的， 應該是去年的統計。家長選擇中學時， 可以作為其一指標， 這102間中學， 都是很好的選擇。 尤其是希望子女入讀Oxbridge的家長
The numbers of acceptance have been divided by the cohortinformation. Bearing in mind the saltiness aspect I’ve put the results into 5 %bandings as shown below. For each band there is the number of schools, indie, statesplit, Department of Education reported student number, Oxbridge applications and accepts, the weighted success rateagainst the full cohort, and the listing of schools in that banding. As beforean * after the school name indicates that it is independent rather than state.

除咗睇%之外, 可能仲要睇埋依d被取錄嘅學生讀邊科.
好似 Westminstèr School 咁, 2013年有189個學生. 入Oxbridge 嘅有76人, 即係40%. 但這189個學生當中, 讀香港人熱門嘅科目嘅就唔多. 例如:-
Architecture 1人
Economics 6人
Engineering 5人
Law 4人
Medicine 13人
總共加埋30人左右. 其他160人讀嘅科目就五花八門, 嘜野都有.
問題係入Oxbridge嗰76個學生當中, 有幾多個係讀依d香港人熱門嘅科目就真係唔知? 所以40%聽落好吸引, 但究竟佢地係讀嘜野科目都要考慮.
我要聲明, 我唔係話有d科目好, 有d唔好. 我只係建議當大家考慮％之餘, 還需考慮多一個問題.

As said, I think school admission also involve a high ratio of luck and 緣份。
AA told me Charterhouse only got one place worldwide for year 10 (last year), while Tonbridge admitted 3 boys from HK.
Fortunately my son loved Tonbridge very much but was in fact not keen on Charterhouse.

外國人比較自我, 在選科上可以睇倒, 你認為是必揀的科目, 佢地會不以為然, 佢地會鍾意考古, 文學, 哲學, 人類學, 動物學, Classic, Langauges, Arts, etc. 香港人認為不切實際, 但佢地好鍾意, 中西文化差異掛, 香港人心儀既科目, 相信唔係咁多外國人同佢地爭? 哈哈
從另外一個角度睇Oxbridge 嗰76個學生中, 極少香港人, 佢地㨂乜科只係反映個人喜好

其實睇 Wycombe Abbey 嘅 website 仲清楚. 佢地列明入 Oxbridge 嘅學生係讀邊科. 2013-2014年度有76人. 當中26人入 Oxbridge (=34%). 這26人之中, 只有1個讀 medicine 及2個讀 law. 真係唔多. 不過我覺得 odelia_ho 個 list, 最有用嘅地方未必係依d學校嘅學生入 Oxbridge 嘅 percentage, 而係依d學校整體上, 佢地嘅學生都能夠考入比較好及出名嘅大學. 依點其實非常重要, 因為雖然大家都希望自己嘅細路考進世界頂尖嘅大學, 但畢竟尖子永遠都係少數. 大部分學生都只會係中游. 若果他們都能考入比較好及出名嘅大學, 對大多數家長嚟講, 咁先係最實際.

Last year, my friend's boy studying in a UK state boarding school ranked about 450 got admitted to Cambridge engineering subject.
So I think the personal devotion is also a success factor though these 102 schools are good reference for parents.
Btw, why St. Mary Calne School is not included in these 102 schools as I know at least 2 HK girls got admitted to Oxbridge from St. Mary Calne.

Westminster is exceptional but the problem is how to get into this school.
The pdf in the link below is published by Cambridge, you can see the no of applicants (no exact if less then 3) , no of offer and acceptance from all secondary schools including those from HK>.

For Westminster the numbers are 49 (applicants) , 28(offers), 26 (acceptances)

‘難唔難入’ 就好主觀 ge，我覺得美國Top 15 比Oxbridge 更加難入
起碼Oxbridge都肯show下香港 d local school（你睇DBS 15中3 即係20％成功率），而且成績都係考慮因素之中，不過美國果d 成績只係入場卷
以DBS為例，耶魯已經十幾年無收過DBS的學生

我女的God father 係Princeton 既admission reader,負責screen application then recommend.全部得5%successful rate.

More difficult to enter doesn't necessarily means better. UK and US universities are very different. The former is deep but narrow while the latter is broad but shallow.

St Paul Co-Ed 上星期六在升大學研討會中提及，今年有10名學生獲牛津和劍橋有條件取錄，8個是IB學生，2個DSE學生，當中包括Law、Medicine、PPE等神科

知唔知IB學生取得幾多分呢？
牛津 offer 一般是38-40 (out of 45)，劍橋是40-41，收到offer 的學生都在這個範圍內，單講成績不是太高。事實上，絕大部份英國大學 IB 40分都收，再加上交海外學生學費就更容易入讀。

Unlike Ivy league, Oxbridge do not really look for 文武全才 but concentrate primarily on academic potentials. Of course, it means much more than just academic results.

近年，英國的教育己成為一項賺錢的工業，養活很多英國人，不論是寄宿中學或大學，都很積極招收海外學生吸金，英國大學本土學生收9000鎊，海外學生收16000鎊，從大學財政角度來看收海外學生有著數。
很多朋友的仔女在英國讀中五至大學，每名學生六年花費約240萬港元(約半層樓的價錢或一個中產家庭的多年積蓄)。我估計香港留學生在英國的教育消費每年超過64億港元 (16000名學生 x $400,000)

I have the same feeling as you. UK universities (except Oxbridge and other top U's) like to recruit overseas student. My son applied Edinburgh as a safety university. According to their website, typical offer for his applied subject is IB 37 points. After application submitted for a while, he received Edinburgh's request for him to confirm that his tuition fee status is "overseas". After he confirmed his fee status, he received a conditional offer of IB 34, explicitly stating the condition that this conditional offer is valid if his fee status is "overseas".

Typical offer is IB 37. But his offer is IB 34, because he will pay tuition fee of overseas student.
Out of 5 universities applied, only Edinburgh's offer deviates much from the "typical offer" published on the university website. Other 4 UK universities (more prestigious ones) give conditional offers at expected IB score as published on their websites.

I hope you realize that most Scottish universities normally require 4 years at undergrad level whereas English universities only require 3 years. Other things being equal, that is 1/3 more in fees!

Yes, we were well aware of this fact. In fact, U of Edinburgh has a lot of elective courses to choose from besides the core requirements of the courses related to the major. That's why it needs 4 years to graduate. The academic system is a bit like the universities in HK and US, rather than that in the other parts of UK which just focusing on the courses in the major.

It sounds as if your kid is not interested in going to Edinburgh. By the way, I do not realize it is possible to receive 5 conditional offers. I thought one can hold no more than 2!

We can have 5 choices in UCAS. So it's possible to receive 5 conditional offers. But the student needs to choose one firm offer & one insurance offer before the deadline (usually in May or June).
My son didn't choose Edinburgh as firm or insurance.
