Hi all, just wish to know how likely we will be given an interview at the ESF kinder/ primary ( e.g. Abacus, CWB, Quarry Bay as catchment area) if we are just an average hong kong family (mom is carrying the UK passport) and having no other fast track priorities ? thanks

As long as I know ESF no longer take whatever kinds of passport if you are not first language in English, what they will put u in priority list are those with siblings & staffs etc

I think it only depends on different campus, myself don't have any play visit invite & they just put us into waiting list directly according to a email they sent to us, haha...so not everyone so lucky can get an interview

so even both parents have foreign passport has slim chance ?
I know Discovery Montessori will run primary too... may be that's an alternative

If everyone applied got play visit, with abolition of cat 1 and 2, how do the school choose? Say for last year, what % of those got invited to play visit get the offer (TY campus)?

i thought those who got play visit hv high chance to get a place. btw, i hv another concern regarding to the government subsidy thing, i heard that starting from 2016 year 1 student will no longer having subsidy from the government and tuition will raise at least 23% from current price. If my son accept the k1 offer this year, the tuition may be sky high in 2017 when he enter year 1. Anyone know about how much will they raise for yr 1 next year ?

To be exactly, if you child is enrolled in August 2015, he or she will be entitled for the subvention until he or she finishes Year 13. However, if your child is enrolled from August 2016, then you will be paying full fees, which is estimated to be around 20%++ higher than those paying subvented fees.
Having said that, ESF school fee seems to increase every year, but not significant, only a few hundreds $ on the monthly fees.

Heard from a esf primary school admission officer that the tuition is expected to be up around 50% in 2016 intake. It was shocking to everyone in the room there. I guess people will know more detail later.

Many of my boy's nursery classmates was accepted by ESF Kinder last year, and all of them hold foreign passports. On the other hand, I have a friend whose boy who does not hold foreign passport, was not even invited for an interview in the same year. These could or could not have anything to do with foreign passports, just my 2-cents wild guess.

Anfield Whampoa. I am not sure whether it is high percentage for the whole nursery population, but among our group, almost half moved on to ESF but all of them hold foreign passports, so I cannot be sure whether it is the nursery or passport or other unknown criteria.

I think it's true for Anfield Whampoa has a high admission rate. This year my son studying there and many of my son's classmates have received ESF play visit invitation, not all of them have foreign passports.

I see. According to the mummy of a classmate who moved on to ESF, her boy refused to talk during the interview but was still offered a spot. So I guess it should not be solely assessed based on performance. As for another friend's boy who was not even invited to interview, I guess the school do assess based on the student's family/ education/family background in the first round of shortlisting.

50%? That means it's going to be around $11K a month for year 1-6?
Well, I guess they need to do more work to upgrade the school infrastructure and facilities to take that fees..

I thought esf is using a 'lottery system' for randomly select the kids for interview. Under such situation, why seems that anfield's student has better chance to be selected?
Besides, any one knows that if esf tsing yi is going to interview most of the applicants? As I heard that they used to interview most of the applicants and selected those 'good performer'. Is it true? Thanks.

Foreign passports don't get direct priority for ESF interviews/places but to date, Education Bureau requirements are that at least 70% of ESF places are allocated to "non-locals" (defined by foreign passport) so that could explain why foreign passports have a higher chance of getting into ESF:

I am just sharing the situation I observed from my boy class, so there are not statistics to support. Hence I definitely dont know abouy Anfield Kowloon Tong. As for the family background of successful cases, I know, as mentioned, all of them hold foreign passports, which could be a coincidence.

Thanks. Read quite a number of post here in BK, and noted its real competitve to gain a spot at the esf - especially for those without any fast track priorities. I do wonder how on earth could ppl without any priorities (like us) would be able to become a lucky one, just to have a chance of interview. However though, i hv no idea why ppl around me having similar background like us - e.g. colleagues and next door neighborhood are having their kids going to esf and/ other private IS. this is really strange to me ...........

I guess joining ESF Abacus playgroup (not by ESL) might be the best way to put those without priority on the fast track list, as stated from ESF website. However, this privilege has stopped starting this year.
