我個仔收到Brighton 同Abingdon Year 9 Offer, 問題在於他宜家讀傳統名校,讀得唔錯, 值唔值呢?

兩間又點揀?

Have u applied other UK schools? These 2 are not top choices of boys schools. How's your son performing in la Salle - top, average or below?

其實你個仔想去英國讀書嗎？我仔在香港時也讀出名的男校，成績也不差，但他說了多次想出國explore一下，我結果決定給他一個機會，現在他在英國的表現也很好呢，就算是大投資也覺得值得。

我覺得學校排名並非最重要(出名的學校在香港也讀過)，我會著重學校的支援丶宿舍安排以及老師與同學的相處。我聽到不少例子是：子女到英國後整個人變得開朗和自信，讀書成績自然不錯了。不只是排名高的中學才可以入好的大學呢！
以上純屬個人意見！

絕對正確，學校名氣只係其中一個考慮因素，最重要係學校本身對海外學生既支援、照顧等等，以及學校既強項是否適合孩子本身，如學術、活動等等。

多謝各位的意見！好明白亦同意學校的支援是很重要。就是因為如此，才擔心選錯。好難完全了解間學校，只是可以從面試時、學校網頁和 agent 口中得知，始終好似好兒戲；有無讀緊嘅家長知道情況呢？

我現在有學生在兩個學校裡面

ABINGDON，很傳統的學校，我會選擇這家，在學業有要求，還有對學生的德智體等有要求。我看過每個學期的成績表，就覺得老師對學生有一定的了解，有時候看到學校話，你已經好努力，比心機。但是這個學校知道學生的能力系邊度，所以會再PUSH 一下
BRIGHTON 是近年先出名的學校（雖然我認識的一位英國律師也是這個學校畢業），出名學業成績，但是覺得學校對學生課後活動的要求沒有ABINGDON 高
兩個學校好處，沒有週末的假期，全部只有HALF-TERM 家長不用煩假期要邊。返香港或者去監護人家就ok

Why specifically coed? Really wants to study in the UK or just try to get out of boys only la Salle? Has your boy visited the UK schools in person?

朋友孩子讀喇沙,但有學習障礙,去了英國中學,成績好了,很開心、考試有特別安排,現上了大學....，另一個喇沙生初中去美國,現是美國医生.

There are also lots of doctors, lawyers, etc. etc. graduating from local schools then going happily onto universities in Hong Kong and making success in career.

The main point is whether the kid is ready to study overseas and away from parents and is fully aware of what boarding life would be like, or just wants to follow suit without serious thought or to meet girls without "parents supervision".

好多學校，例如eton winchester 除了half-term (一個禮拜假）之外，還有exeat weekend (星期五放假，星期日返）好多家長因為有些學校有這些假期而頭疼

brighton abingdon 都沒有這個假期，不過要注意，5月有一個bank holiday weekend, 好多學校都要放假

如果你全部假期（包括half-term) 都安排回香港，就要看看那個假期點算

佢運動好差，現在覺得d運動好的同學比較容易埋堆，怕去到英國男校都一樣。其實，如果 tonbridge 收，他都會去。但如果brighton 和 abingdon, 他想去 brighton 囉。 abingdon 係咪比較傳統，死板呢？

yes, i have this idea as well; apply both universities at england and hk, and see which is better. hk's places is not enough,

hard to get one!

I am not very familiar with the 2 schools. However I happened to bump into my ex-colleague and his son on the street one day, and was very very impressed by his son. The boy then just graduated from Abingdon, and was very impressive as he was courteous, 很有教養，大方得體，in a nutshell, stand out from boys of his age. I also heard he got many A*s in his GCSE.

From then on, Abingdon gives me a very positive impression.

yes, i heard from a ex-student today as well; he is very proud of being a student there. I know my son and I have different angles on it, hopefully can come out a final decision we all agreed with; short notice, only have 1 week time, I feel very hard to make this decision, even bigger than my marriage.

我的兒子也是準備2015年9月到英國留學，12月8日之前決定是否到ABINGDON, 已經開好支票決定選擇這所傳統學校。我的兒子亦不擅長運動，但選定它的原因是這所學校重視全面發展，正好可他在短項方面提高。這個年齡的孩子可塑性很高，只與自己比較有進步就好！

我都識人由中五從香港去Abingdon讀中六，最後入了Imperial, 我相信不論讀Abingdon或Brighton學業成績出來都會幾出色。

Abingdon有七百幾年歷史，當然有它傳統的一面！但認識一個英國人，她的兒子在國際學校讀書，回英前就出盡法寶要兒子考入這所學校，因為她覺得學校的模式像lB school，有很多課外活動, 她要兒子work hard play hard 的。若你看一看學校網站，學校今年開學以來，已經兩次由老師帶領安排宿生跟一些知名女校周末展開聯誼活動，如互相走訪，席上安排一些如speed dating的玩意讓男女生多點認識之類。這其實有點出乎我意料之外！
