因有個Aunt住在那區可幫忙照顧她, 那請問附近有其他好學校嗎? 因她是公民, 所以想她入公立中學, 因私立中學實在很貴, 我們也不能負擔得起!

謝謝您的幫忙!

For my understanding is if the student is not aus PR/ citizen, they could only study in selected state school. Pacific pines state high school is not on that list. Check this list: https://www.eqi.com.au/apps/find-a-school-default.html

Pacific Pines state high school is not a good school as well. You can choose Helensvale state high school instead (5-10 mins away from Pacific pines). Benowa state high/ Merrimac state high/ Varsity College are both very good reputation schools but they are a bit far from pacific pines.

I have checked the school. It is really not very good. It's very young and established in 2000. It offers students to learn Japanese as the other language, so I suppose they don't have a lot of Asian students. Usually students need to learn Chinese if the school has more Asian (especially Chinese) students. As your daughter is very young, it is still okay if the school is just walking distance from where she lives. At year 8, students are still very young, and she can make good friendship at this age. She may choose another school after one to two year studying there if she doesn't like the school. She can apply for schools in other catchment areas. If she has good school reports, she will be considered by other good schools.

However, if you want to find a better school which is not close to where she lives, then you must find someone to drive her to school and back home (5 to 10 minutes driving distance is already far away). As she is new there, it's extremely dangerous for her to take the bus alone. We have got relatives living in Gold Coast, and have gone there many times before. It's not like Brisbane that there are buses mainly with Chinese and Asian passengers. In Australia, children and young girls (especially Asian look) are always the target by bad people. Also, Pacific Pines is a very quiet place. You can have a look of it in Google map. I really don't recommend she is walking alone to and from the bus stop (unless it is not far away from home and the school).

I would say that Brisbane is safer than Sydney and Melbourne. However, in Australia, one should not go out alone at night (when the sun goes down), especially girls and children. When your daughter is new there, the best is to learn more about the place she lives and keep going home earlier. Don't even walk alone in the morning or afternoon as most of the streets are very quiet. Even in main roads, there would not be many pedestrians. Many kidnappers are driving their cars the whole day, looking for their preys.

You may let me know where your daughter will live and study. If I know the place, I will tell you more.

有很多寄宿女校和寄宿男女校。雖然你女兒有身分,但只有學費便宜過海外生,住宿費是大家都一樣的。你要預一年學校加住宿費約 澳紙 3.5 至 6 萬不等

Thanks for your trust in what I have said. Sorry that I don't know IES. Perhaps others can give you more information about it. However, in Google map, I see that it is located very near CBD. Or, you can even say it is in the CBD. As said, it is really not safe to walk alone at night everywhere including CBD (not only in Australia, but in other countries). In Brisbane's busy areas like CBD, shops are usually closed in the evening. So at night, the streets will be very quiet. In Brisbane's CBD, the shops will close late on Friday. So, perhaps Friday night will be safer compared to other days in a week. Other than busy areas, the streets are very quiet at any time, so they are not safe.

I see that there is a small hospital nearby which has emergency. That sounds quite good as it means that sometimes there will be policemen in the hospital. A place may be safer if there is a police station or policemen around. But, that doesn't mean you can go home at night. Also, as IES is in CBD, morning (after the shops open) and afternoon will be safer as there are many shops and people around the place.

Moreover, you need to know whether your daughter needs to attend evening classes. Then, it'd be better that she has classmates living near her home so that they can go home at night together. Anyway, the most important is that when going home, don't talk to any strangers. Don't try to answer any questions they ask. Just say "sorry I don't understand" and walk away. Dail a call (or pretend to dail a call) to let the stranger know someone is talking to you on the mobile phone. If you see someone or a group of people in front of you on the street, you may walk to the other side of the street so that you don't need to walk passing them. It is really dangerous if you need to walk passing someone on a quiet street, especially at night.

Those bad people are usually paedophile or criminals with child and sex abuse (there are many sex criminals in Australia). Blackmail is just a small number. Recently, the terrorists in Australia even said that they would find any ordinary people to kill. The bad people drive the whole day to find preys. They don't need to work as Australia has a very good welfare system.

It's difficult to say whether it is safe to go to school by bus in the morning. It really depends on where she lives and how long it will take to go to the bus stop. If you know her homestay address, you can then check from Google map the distance between her homestay and the bus stop (to the school and back from school will be two different bus stops). You can even use the Google map to check whether the surrounding of the homestay address is safe.

I used to study in IES and lived in Brisbane before. There is lots of people walking up to IES during school term and it would be safe for them. Brisbane is much more safer then Sydney and Melbourne for sure. Don't worry too much and I'm sure that your daughter would be very enjoy her school life in IES.
