You should have applied for year 1 last year. Don't think entry at year 2 is possible. You may still join their wait list. There is another entry at year 7.

Only ESF themselves can tell you how long is the wait list for Year 2.
There is some chance though, because some Year 1 pupils might join the local school application game and if they get an offer from one of the "divine" local primary schools they may leave ESF and thus free up some slots for Year 2.
作者: oooray 時間: 14-5-30 16:33
Even if you applied in Year 1 and have already been on the waitlist, the queue is long enough to wait for 6 years without any news; unless you suddenly have priority (e.g. sibling or staff priority). It may shorten the waiting time to 1 or 2 years.

FYI, we have been on the KJS waiting list for 4 years.
From near 60th now finally moved up to 5th. Good luck on waiting

Actually there are a few ESF primary schools on the Island might have higher turn over rate throughout the year. I think Peak, Bradbury, and Glenaely may be those schools. However, you need to be in the catchment of these schools. They only accept utilities bills as address proof.

You can call to the desired school and ask, they will tell you. Its quite a big difference for different school zones, like QBS hv around 7x on wait list for Year 1, while Bradbury only around 10, and Kennedy have 60-70 around, Peak School still have place...information provided from the each school in late Aug...so better can to check before you submit the application if u r flexible to move anywhere.

Just curious, how about moving house while on the waitlist?
As there is change in catchment area, and applicant suppose to start another application to a different school all over again?

No, u cant, u apply thru online and need to write where you live and u need to check which school is related to your school zone and then you have to mail to supporting documents to the related school.

You can provide the address proof to the school that you have already applied, they will make application transfer for you to the related school zone, but where your kid's application will be put on the waiting list in the new school is upon your first application date within the academic year. So may be you are in the top of the list in your existing school zone, but will be on better or worser position in the new one or target one. As for the carry forward waiting to next year, will need to do the re-enrollment for the waiting list. Hope the information can help. But i will suggest you to call to the school and ask as well.

That's exactly our case.
My younger son applied for Year 1 and was put on waiting list even with sibling priority. We waited for 6 years without hearing a word from the school. Well, it might partly be my fault. I checked back with the school in Year 2 but was told to continue to wait. I indicated my wish to stay on the waiting list but never checked back again, thinking the school would call me if there was a space come up. Apparently that was a bad idea. A classmate of my son was having a really hard time at school and his mom was very desperate to find him another school. She just called up the ESF school that my son was waiting for and she got a place for her son. It would have been my son's place if I had been more persistent in calling and checking with the school every now and then.
We applied for Year 7 next year for my son and luckily he got in this time.

Oh how come you have silbling priority but cannot get the interview offer and wait for that long time? Even the ESF kindergarten kids can get one when applying Y1, and as you know, being an "ESF kindergarten student" is at the bottom of the priority list...

My son did go to the interview but for whatever reason, he wasn't offered a place at that time and was only put on waiting list even he had sibling priority. At that time priority were given to children who didn't speak Chinese thus had no access to local school system. Maybe in my catchment there were way too many non-Chinese spoken kids and there was just no space left for someone like my son. (I heard many mainland Chinese parents claimed that their children didn't speak Cantonese hence were not able to go to local schools. They used this to gain priority to get in ESF. I don't have any statistic on this so I don't know how true this is but nevertheless it seems to be what was happening few years back. ESF changed their priority and not able to speak Chinese is no longer at the top of the list)

No you don't. You just need to indicate to the school that you wish to stay on the waiting list and ask them to call you when a space comes up. Of course this proves to be no enough as in my case. It helps to call and check back with the school from time to time just to remind the school that you are still very interested. It's always better to be proactive

Don't be. Just 平常心 would do. And ESF isn't the only good school in Hong Kong. Even if your child doesn't get in, there are other good ones to go to.
We put our son to ISF primary and haven't regretted our decision. At the same age, his Chinese is much better than his older brother who's been with ESF since Year 1 (frankly that's also one of the reasons why I wasn't pushing very hard and calling ESF all the time in the past 6 years trying to get him in). Now he's ready to move on to secondary next year, we feel that it's a good time to switch him to ESF as Chinese will take up a much lighter weight in ISF secondary so the advantage starts to fade out. Luckily this time he got in. So things will just work out fine in some ways. Don't worry too much.

The admission staff said they will send email to all parents that their kids are on wait list and ask if they want to wait for next academic year and do the re-enrollment online in designated period.

Yes those with more foreigners tend to have higher turn over rate among students.
