Just got an email this afternoon, Tonbridge School got a place available and is offering it to my son (as he was put on the top of their waiting list since last December, after the entrance exam). It was a happy surprise, but now it is already mid May. Seems very rush for all the preparation : body check, visa, flight tickets, etc. AA asked us to confirm today!! (I got the email at 3pm somethings!)

How did you know your son was put on the top of their waiting list? AA told u?

I did contact the school directly. And they told me frankly when I asked.
At first, they emailed me saying my son did well in the entrance exam but not enough to secure a place right away, therefore, they put him on the short waiting list. Then, I called the school to ask about his performance and his chance of finally getting the offer. Then, they reassured me saying he was being put at the top of the wait list and will be offered once a place becomes available.

So, don't feel shy to ask for more information la!

Oh , my daughter is being nominated to attend a renowned IB school. They said ok. I am waiting for handbooks, CAS no to proceed student visa, ticketing, health checking and stuff. Request arrival time is mid August. She is doing IGCSE exam right now. As the time is running out, I am still in the situation accomplishing nothing. Everything is new to me. New chapter of life. You should well know my anxiety.

Ic! renowned IB school in UK ? Is it Sevenoaks?
I think you can proceed to ticketing first ? I haven't confirm the offer with Tonbridge yet, no yet getting any details (even the offer letter!) from them, but I am checking and reserving flight tickets with agents la!

i don't think you have to pay right away for the flight tickets. No harm ask ask the travel agent !

Tonbridge is also my son's dream school! We visited the school last summer and he loved the school and admired the 大哥哥 who toured us around.

How old is your son? Is he going to apply for Tonbridge too?

We also visited Tonbridge before. It is an excellent school with first class facilities. He is in grade 6 now. Applied for year entry 2016.

no. but this offer came up too suddenly. we thought it's over and were 'settled' with the scenario without the offer! and, my husband does not want to send him away...

一般係話3years 前要apply, 其實大部分學校吾洗，Tonbridge我地都係舊年七月apply今年九月入學。你最好有心水學校，然後直接send email 去問admission, 或者問agent 啦。

我對這校認識不多，但見到bk資深家長都讚的學校一定不錯。
已經收到學校回覆，他們的效率很高，剛剛傳了阿仔的成績表，樂器cert.和其他相關資料給學校，希望有機會啦！

Yes. They asked us go to Tonbridge to meet their Music Director, sit for the computer based pre-selection test and have an interview with Senior Master on CNY holiday.

How do you apply this school? Is it through agent? Do you need to go there for interview?

our case is a bit complicated.

we arranged and visited the school ourselves last June, met the headmaster and he encouraged us to apply asap. then in July I called AA to arrange the application for us. So, we went through AA's pre-assessment, top school week (but my son was exempted for the interview) and entrance exam. But during the process, the school admission did sometimes email me directly, regarding the application, interview, exam, etc. Then in Dec the school also emailed me the result directly, AA forwarded me the results one day later. My son was first put on the waiting list, but he was on the top. I knew this because I called and talked to the school admission director directly. They said they would call me once a place becomes available. I stopped expecting since March/April as there was no news. Then suddenly this Wednesday I got email from AA saying there is a place available and offered to my son!

My advice after my past 10 months' experience : apply to the school directly. I don't see much useful help I got from the agent. 當然最了解最著緊你個仔既人係你自己，最識sell你個仔既亦係你自己！

多謝你的分享. 雖然學校的2016 Year 9入學申請已截止, 但我昨天發電郵給他們時有提及阿仔的個人長處, 可能因此而得到學校正面的回覆, 現在要收集多些有關學校的資料, 看看是否出年新年要去走一趟.

可以跟我分享多些選擇這間學校的原因嗎?

其實以我所知Tonbridge 係可以一年前先apply. 你而家3年前apply, 得到都只係conditional offer. 入學前的11月都係要考entrance exam, 我知有人有conditional offer 但最後entrance exam 完吾收。所以我吾知個conditional offer 既作用係乜野。其他top schools 好似Winchester, Westminster 就一定要3年前apply. 不過我吾知Tonbridge 而家有無改policy. 你最好school visit 時問下個difference.

至於選Tonbridge 原因係，阿仔當初雄心壯志話要去讀top school/U, 咁我地shortlist 咗Westminster, Winchester 同Tonbridge 黎school visit. 點知佢visit完淨係鍾意Tonbridge, 係好鍾意，話佢係dream school. 咁我地就淨係target Tonbridge 囉。

我在A-level results 2013: Independent schools table和GCSE results 2013: Independent schools table都搵不到有關Tonbrdige的排名, 請問Tonbridge是Independent schools嗎?

Tonbridge is indeed an independent school. Recently many top schools such as Wnchester, Eton , Cheltenham Ladies'...... have boycotted those league tables so you won't find them on the lists.

I recalled Tonbridge is kind of 2x as per 2013 Financial Times ranking.

謝謝你的鼓勵! 學校睇完阿仔的成績表後，都叫我哋過去面試，相信都有機會嘅。早兩日上網見到新年還有機票可以換，如果換到就可以慳一筆。

這幾天要再搵下其他學校，如果可以一次過睇埋及面試就好喇!
