How old is your child and have you applied?
If you are aiming for Reception and haven't applied from birth, the chance of getting in is slim....

If your child is older (ie. going into secondary school), then it is a complete different story, i'm sure there are other parents who can answer better than me.

Please let us know what your situation is like first ;)

My child has applied for year 1 and was offered an assessment.
As the assessment will take about 90min, so I would like to know how is the assessment be carried out.

The school didn't say much about it but emphaised no training. Area of assessment will be Eng and Math.

This is the second round of assessment for P1 students. The first round was completed in Jan. I suppose this means that they are not able to fill all the places from the first batch. Good luck! There will be about 7-8 kids per group; so each child would get roughly 10 min of individual assessment. What is your child's level of competency in English? Is he or she currently in an international kinder?

Thank you very much for your information.
There are total 5 assessment days (2 in Jan, 2 in Feb, 1 in Mar). I am afraid that this is still the first round of assessment as we have been informed the assessment day half year ago.
My child is studying in an international kindergarten, fluent English, near native.
Did your child pass the assessment? Mind sharing the assessment details?

Meaning you should relax as there is probably nothing you can do to improve the child's assessment performance at this stage.

What they told you in the pre-assessment session is pretty much was they asked in the interview. However, they look beyond English fluency. I suspect that they test reading ability, vocabulary, math and maybe even take into consideration of the kid's character. All asked verbally. Their passing rate is very low and the school will not lower the standard just to fill the place.

Awww, but when we called the school about application when our boy was about 2 years old, the school hinted that it was too late for us, so we didn't bother to apply!! Perhaps i should've tried...

Anyhow, we're pretty happy with where he is now...

My guess is that they don't want to have too many application as this created a lot of workload to the staff and teachers. The school increased the application fee and assessment fee a lot in recent years.

They usually receive a large number of applications, and so parents are advised to apply early. If you apply when your kid is 2, I suppose there is still a chance to be invited for an interview, although you may not get an invitation for interview in the first-round (the assessment is very difficult to pass, and so they are usually not able to fill all the places after the first round of assessments and will do another round in March / April).
