Can anyone share your experience getting the offer from the waiting list?

How long did you wait?

What was the strategy/arrangement while waiting?

How many students would an IS put on waiting list normally?

Thank you very much.

Someone got an offer by next month; someone got an offer till the last day before school begin or even a few days after school begins.
Someone got next year; someone never get any offer after waiting for 6 years.

If you ask, some schools will tell you some schools won't.
Some schools will keep applicants in the waitlist (except a few have been rejected for some reasons) and will do nothing until you are moving to the top.
Generally speaking, if you have passed the interview but not being granted a place, you are most probably on the top of the waitlist and may get an offer soon for Year 1 application.
If you have not yet gone through an interview and being placed in the waitlist directly, it may take a long time to wait.
While you are on the waitlist, Year 2 will be another chance to get an interview/offer, as some children may go back to local school (if they get a dream offer from local school). After that, only a few vacancies will be available in the coming year groups every year.
Sorry for not giving you the answers you want but only thing you can do is to call the schools directly.

After Year 6 places might become available again as some children may leave for overseas, but at that level it is also more difficult to switch if the child has been studying in a local school unless it is one of those top ones, and if it is a top one then there is not much incentive to switch.
