English: stresses extensive reading, and creative writing and guided writing. Children write sentences and paragraphs starting from year 1 (K3).
Math: stresses real life problem solving. Children have to understand how problems in everyday life can be solved using math.

International School never "teach" English direct, they will only "use" English as a tools/ media to learn other stuff. Teachers will ask students to read story books (at their levels) as much as possible depends on the student's individual ability. Student will then be asked about the contents of story books and write down something that is interesting to them or what they have learnt in the books ( i.e. reading, speaking and writing skill training).
Then, the student will learn English gradually.

For English, they do have a formal curriculum teaching grammar like tenses, conjunctions, adjectives etc, but these are taught in the context of reading, different from the approach in local schools.

I have just shared the approach used in KJS years ago. In KJS they never teach grammer, tenses, adjectives or etc direct. They are always reading books, preparing Project and Presentation under a Theme. It’s also very amazing that the English of my daughter is pretty good under this approach. She is now in KGV.

Still, because of the lower cost, teacher student ratio is higher than many other international schools. In ESF, one teacher and one TA to 30 students, compared to 22 or 24 students in other IS.
