Sorry guys!  I couldn't do any more local kindy although her kindy is a warm and caring school. it is the teaching system that i am not a big fan.  I escaped. i escaped without a solid plan. Need help here. Now we are going to Woodland in Saikung to finish up her K2 and meanwhile i am looking for the possible primary school for her.
we missed ESF. SIS has no seats. I don't know how good is HKA?

i was thinking apply for Creative Primary school in Kowloontung and 崇真 english stream later this yr, but if they  turned us down, then i must have a plan B. so im looking at IS now. cause i don't want to put her in the public school system. (no offence)

im so new to here, can any one tell me what am i doing making sense or i had it backwards?

thx a lot!

You can go to HKA for a school visit.  The new campus looks very impressive.

U may check with  Kellet school.  Besides there is a new IS in kwun Tong -  Nord Anglia.  It will open later this year.

you may like to check with KIS.
they might have vacancy.
they invited my son to join their reception class in Feb, but I dont want to change in the middle of the yr, while I am not sure if I will be happy with KIS. I will join their year one admission screening instead.

Still thinking as it is very expensive (and debenture is compulsory).
作者: oooray    時間: 14-1-14 10:02

Escaping at K2 without solid plan is risky.
My only advice is Getting any available seat in primary before choosing and waiting your best seat.

If u are willing ti pay .5M, u still can apply ESF year 1.  Think about it, if u plan to finish primary & secondary in hk.  It is an alternative to u if no other school that have offer finally.
作者: annie40    時間: 14-1-14 22:17

HKA is a good school . take the offer, if have. once you child is in  IS system, it is more easy to tranfsfer to other IS later.

作者: baby-renee    時間: 14-1-14 23:25

thanks to all of you! i will look into the info you guys gave!! really appreciated!

i was thinking about maybe i just let my girl go for the private or semi-private, which i have a couple in mind so far: Creative primary in kowloontong, CKY, 崇真 international stream。 then since we live in TKO, she can also try 播道,真道。  if none of them takes her, then i don't know what to do then. i know it sound wired.

the reason i chose all these schools is because we can't afford the IS that over 12000 per month and we don't have .5M for debenture.

so really not much choice for us. HKA says there is a financial aid for the people who can't afford debenture, well, i m sure there are enough people who can afford it.

what do you guys say?

i love the tuition but i don't see much info from the site though. maybe should call for a school visit? do you have more words for this school? is it good ?
thx a lot!

HKA and Kellett are just as expensive as Nord Anglia.   and Kellett has a long waiting list (3 year waiting time)  unless u buy a debenture.

will u consider spending a year in k3 in a international kindergarten next year first?

作者: annie40    時間: 14-1-15 08:11

Please apply ESF so as to put your child in waiting list. Then taking prompt action to send application form to below schools close to your g
home. All are good.

Hong Kong Academy Sai Kung
Hong lok yuen Taipo
CAIS Shatin
啟新,馬鞍山

Hk side and Discovery Bay there are more international primary schools. But too far for your kid. Never too late. work hard and make it.

When u are budgeting your education expenses, please take 5-10% increase of tuition fee every year. Also, those private school you listed probably have a "better" or "relaxed" learning environment than local schools but please make sure whether they will adopt the same examination system as local schools (e.g DSE) at secondary stage. The worst scenario is that you have enjoyed a happy learning time but at the end of day you are being slaughtered in the DSE where other students are well equipped throughout the demanding curriculum in local schools.

No matter you are in local or private or IS, you have to working hard if you want any pay-off. It was just an illusion that life in IS is so relaxing (of course there are many relaxing parent s and children but you can foresee their academic achievement in the future if they are not genius.) Most parents and children are working hard in learning , but just in a different way from those in local schools (exam, test, exam, test....).

Why you want IB over DSE?
I am asking because your child is still small and you are already worried about high school curriculum. And yet, you seem to know quite little about international schools.

Exactly.  Don't rule out any of the possibility.

It is not easy to get a place in IS though.  Besides, some top ISs are not that relaxing as you would expect, such as CIS, GSIS...

If you plan to go to Us in HK, DSE is the main stream.

Very few schools in HK have full chain IB program, i.e. from PYP / MYP to IBDP.

Hi thx for the reply!   U right I know little about IS. I heard DSE  is very demanding and v hard., a lot of paperwork meanwhile Ib is more project base which needs a lot of work too, but more  creative and mind stimulating.  Pls correct me if I'm wrong. My girl is ABC, most likely she will go back to US for U.

Thx again

Hi thx for the reply!   U right I know little about IS. I heard DSE  is very dema ...

Looks like you are hearing bits and bits of IB from different sources/people and putting them together to get a twisted picture.
IBDP (high school curriculum) is one of the most demanding high school curriculum. Students are granted advance standing when entering university (with certain conditions). So you can say that IBDP covers considerably lots of content covered in freshman year. While the IBPYP (primary curriculum) is like most typical western primary curriculum) in terms of the knowledge learnt, IBMYP (junior secondary school curriculum) starts to get a lot more demanding.
You are right in saying students need to be very creative in IB, but at the same time, students need to be very hard working as well. Students who are not willing to be diligent and prefer a more relaxed high shool life should not choose IB.
Anyway, If your child would be going back to the US, it might be a good alternative to consider the US curriculum as well. Look at schools that provide US curriculum as well. Open yourself to different options.
