We will visit U K school around Chinese New Year holidays for one week.
The schools distributed north part, south west and near London. In planning the route if take train some of the trip will cost thee or much longer hours of journey.

Besides, train any other transportation can take or web site to search for details (we cannot drive).

Please share your planning whether you are going to visit or had visited.

Thank you sancheng 138 your reply.
I most concern the means of transportation among my plan. Besides, train, taxi is it the fastest way to get to the destination ? Any private car with driver can also do the similar job ? Any web site you can recommended ?

1. It will be cheaper if you book the train tickets in advance, e.g. several days or weeks before your journey :

When you arrive the train station, just insert your credit card into the ticket machine and you will get your tickets.

2. Local cabs are cheaper than taxi but you have to call or book them, just similar to 雞記 in HK. To get their contact numbers, type the area name and cabs in Google, e.g. "croydon cab", then you will get a list of local cab operators in that area. You can contact them 10-60 minutes before your arrival.

3. It will be better for you to get a local phone card such as Giffgaff or Lebara.

4. You have to contact the schools before you arrange the visits.

Where can I buy the phone card to use for a short trip? What is the charging rate like?

If I need to buy 1 for my kid, should it be the same? Will top-up plan is cheaper or join any local plan in uk will be better?

You can buy a Lebara or Giffgaff sim card at £1 from most supermarkets in the UK. Moreover, you can also top-up the sim card there or with your credit card.
