Hi there,

Need to seek for your advice on Abington and Oundle. My son has just got offers from these two schools (year 9).

Personally I prefer Oundle as it is mostly fuill boarders while the % of boarders at Abingdon is small (only ~5%).
Academically they are similar with Oundle slightly higher in ranking.
Another obvious consideration is boys' school vs co-ed school!

As far as I know -

Abingdon is stronger in academic, lower proportion of boarders to day pupils implying less ECAs.

Oundle has a higher ratio of boarders, majority of the students are boarders and hence busier life. Learn from BK the school has first class lab good for students who are interested in Science.

Both of the two schools are academically strong.

My friend's son was admitted by Imperial after graduating from Abington last year. He has very comments on Abingdon and there are 12 students per one class.

I think the style of your son is also a consideration.

Oundle sounds quite demanding on participating in ECAs.

Oundle 's entrance exam will only take place in Jan 2014, how could you get an offer now? Is it some sort of conditional offer for special talent?

Conditional offer, not sure it is a rare case. His outstanding achievement on Cello and swimming may be a plus.

Can I ask what does the conditional offer state? Is that conditional to certain requirement of the entrance exam or ??
