My son has just got a predicted grade of IB 45. As I do not have much knowledge about the career development in the legal industry, I would like to seek advice on the following:
1. Out of the LLB programmes offered by HKU and CU, which one is better?
2. For applying the places of the UK universities through UCAS, any recommendations for the 5 choices for LLB?
3. If he plans to pursue a master degree after graduation for widening his exposure, any advice for the future path for studying and working?
Thank you in advance for your help.

1. HKU
2. There are 8 UK LNAT (a test for applying law schools) participating schools. They are all top law schools that can be considered.
- University of Birmingham
- University of Bristol
- Durham University
- University of Glasgow
- King’s College London
- University of Nottingham
- University of Oxford
- University College London
Please also add LSE in your list
3. I think it's too early to consider what master degree to study. I suggest to consider it after getting in a law firm.

Cow,
Thank you for your advice. For (1), can you elaborate more why HKU is better?

(1) I would choose HKU than CU for the most obvious reasons. HKU has offered LLB for more than 40 years whereas CU only offered LLB around 2005. You will have a very strong alumni connection if you are an alumni of HKU law.
(2) With a predicted IB score of 45, I strongly urge your kid to apply to Oxbridge. If you are an Oxbridge BA (Juris) or LLB graduate, you will stand in a different starting point in your career. You can easily be recruited as a trainee by the prestigious law firms in Hong Kong or admitted by the leading barrister chambers if you intend to work as a barrister.
(3) I agree that the LNAT law schools are very prestigious but I recommend to take into consideration of LSE and Warwick.
(4) For Master Degree, I think apart from Oxbridge, your kid could consider applying to the LLM program of leading law schools (T14 law schools) such as Harvard, UPenn, Duke, UVA, Berkeley etc (Note: some of the T14 law school would not admit fresh LLB graduates without working experience such as Yale, Columbia and Stanford) .If your kid has a first class honor or a high high 2:1 degree granted by HKU or CU, I think there is a great chance that he is admitted to one of the T14 law schools or Oxbridge, LSE or UCL etc in the UK. Again, you will be at a different starting point in your career if you have an LLM from those colleges.

I recommend you to read the annual report of Standing Committee on Legal Education and Training for more information about the situation in each local law school.

For filling in the 3 choices for making application to HKU, any recommendation for the ranking of:- LLB
- BBA(Law)&LLB
- BSS(GL)&LLB
Is the condition for the offer of these 3 programmes different?
Which programme provides a better prospect (in terms of progressing to PCLL and future career), or they have no difference?

Actually, not sure if yr choices are the same field. As far as I know if you put the Medi at the first and LLB at the second choice, sure you don't hv chance for LLB even the interview. If not ture, pls correct

I hope you have already applied if you are interested in Oxbridge because the deadline has been passed.

For HKU NJ, MBBS and BBA Law must in in first choice. LLB theoretically can be at 2nd or 3 rd choice, but if MBBS doesn't reject your application, the 2nd and 3rd choice won't consider your application.
For CUHK, it's proven that they will consider all 3 applications simultaneously. The second and third choice won't grant offer, unless you decline the first choice or vice versa.
NJ is really complicated and different university has different approaches.
