My experience is that at the lower kindergarten level, both local and international kindergartens are equally interesting for a 3-5 y old kid. Both offer enough of "fun activities" to stimulate young children. However, most local kindergartens might become more demanding on academic works as kids move to K3. Don't forget lots of international kindergartens do not have "K3", the "K3" belongs to the primary section often called foundation or prep year.
My children are in local and international kindergartens in HK Island, that's my personal observation. When my younger moved from Tutor Time to a so regarded famous local kindergarten, it took a little time to adjust as he was used to be very free at Tutor Time in the classroom, while the local kindergarten requires kids to sit still more, however he has lots of funs with the very interesting activities offered at the local kindergarten.

Yes, agreed. My boy is attending PG at an international kinder, the 2.5 hour has three circle times which required students sit down to listen to music, stories, etc.
They have discipline and control, too.

I think it has a lot to do with your child's temperment. I've been reading up lately and the books i read all agree that temperment in certain ways are in born.
Easy babies turns out to be easy going kids which turns into mild adults.
Slow to warm up babies turns out to be shy kids which turns into introverted adults.
Active babies turns out to be kids who can't sit down which turns into action packed adults.
Of course we will and should balance out their temperment a bit, encourage them to get out of their box, learn about how the rules of the world work and how to socialize with others, but accept our kids as they are at the same time.
My son is super active too and i am learning to give him stricter rules at home as he is entering K1 (in a Montessori school). No matter where they go to kindergarten, they must learn to follow instruction and be still while the teacher is teaching. There is always a time for exploration and socialization, but they must learn self-control and wisdom above all else.
