Look forward to hearing what others are doing. We haven't started ebooks on Kindle yet. Have a Paperwhite already though have yet to register on .cn and also figure out how to convert to traditional characters.

Yes, all books I listed above were bought from Amazon CN. I simply cannot wait and the 中國童話 eBooks are very good for kids' reading on trip. Hope the promotion will come soon.

我自己用KINDLE KEYBOARD, reg 唔到AMAZON.CN 而且阿女對中文書都未養成主動閱讀習慣, 我打算過多兩年先至買KINDLE俾佢地.

宜家我自己用KINDLE唔買書, 而細嗰個可以開始睇MAGIC TREE HOUSE 同RAINBOW MAGIC呢D細書, 書櫃位就冇咁緊張, 不過我訂左3 本雜誌俾佢地睇, 遲D都係頭痕

我找不到直接將 .mobi 從簡轉繁的方法，所以要行多一步，先將 .mobi 轉 .epub, 轉完繁體後再將 .epub 轉回 .mobi.

上面條 link 內的 steps 1 & 3 可用 calibre 來做，如果你已經裝了 calibre 落電腦。

** 只能轉換沒有 DRM 鎖住的書。Amazon 的書是有 DRM 的，要 de-DRM 後才能轉換。
DRM 在網上有很多討論，有認同的，有認為不公平的，當然亦有教如何 de-DRM 的，你想做可以自己 search。這邊是 BK 比較"太平"的地方，我不想惹起爭端，所以不談 de-DRM 了

基本上Kindle（除了Fire以外的所有款式）是Amazon推出的eBook reader。如果你只想用來看英文書，除了Amazon 的Kindle之外，市面上還有其他公司出的eBook reader可以考慮。

購買一部Kindle 後的初始設定就是將它登定在某一國家的Amazon account，登記後就能在那國家的Amazon store 購物（包括買eBooks）。

到暫時為止，似乎只有Kindle Fire 及Paperwhite 可以登記到Amazon China，換句話說其它舊式的Kindle暫時不能用來購買Amazon China 的Kindle eBooks（這裏邊包括了很多中文電子書）。不過，就算不在Amazon China 買中文電子書，你還是可以在其他電子書商購買中文電子書，然後放上你的Kindle 閱讀。

希望以上的解釋沒有令你更覺混亂。另外，請問你在考慮那款Kindle？可以知道你為何不選Paperwhite嗎？

Hi huba,
謝謝解答，十分清楚詳細。想買最basic的，只要耐看不傷眼就ok,因用ipad看書實在眼很倦。見amazon網頁比較，kindle賣US$69,kindle paper white 3G則要$179，是否真的good value for money，不知道。另外，paper white 是否亦是用e ink pearl,邊款看得舒服眼不易倦？

Interesting, just noticed that they don't carry the wifi only Paperwhite anymore. I think the wifi one with advertising was around US$119. A much better deal.

I have an old (think 1st or 2nd generation Kindle) and a Paperwhite. The Paperwhite is much better and doesn't hurt the eyes even for prolonged reading.

3G 版貴呀，買WiFi only 就夠晒，香港很多地方有免費WiFi, 再唔係用部手機做WiFi hotspot。

Amazon China 賣緊WiFi only Paperwhite CNY849。不過最平都係日本賣緊JPY7,980, 個別大型電器店還有5%退稅服務（如合資格消費滿一定金額），搵朋友幫手買部返來吧。

之前阿仔唔多用我的舊Kindle, 而今直情將部Paperwhite 據為己有。

In addition to cheaper price, you can get a reduction of JPY1, 980 if you purchase their Kindle eBook after purchasing the New Paperwhite from them directly.

In Japan's Amazon Kindle store, they do carry English books in addition to Japanese books. Also, individual English books can be even cheaper than their counterpart in US.

最簡單就係上去US Amazon preorder 直接送到府上，就算是維修也簡單，直接聯絡他們便是。

如你自己或老友們熟及常去日本，就10月22日後在日本買吧，除了在Amazon Japan 網上買，也可在各大家電店甚至Toysrus買到。不過，要維修的話手續可能會較麻煩。

可以。

Menu->Settings->Device Options-> Parental Controls->Switch Off Kindle Store

Deregister may be a bit troublesome because I need to re-register in every purchase. The Parental Control would be a good option.

I shall probably encourage her to study hard to get scholarship and allow her to use the fund to buy paperwhite.

Our Kindle 3 is now aging, needs recharging more frequently. We probably will need to buy a new one later too. My boy is interested in the new vocab builder function so maybe we will try this when our K3 is certified.

Note that the New Paperwhite WiFi model has two prices listed on US Amazon's website.

The cheaper one US$119 carries advertisement/promotion messages. (Previously, I mistaken it as promotion price.) I tried to pre-order it but got declined as my delivery address is outside US and this model is for US domestic customers only (as the ads. should target US market too).

The price of the one (without ads.) we can pre-order for delivery to HK is US$139.

yes, Laputa, seems like less than 3 years is really not too long in amazon's view too. I was searching for battery replacements and came across this:

seems like I may be able to get a kindle replacement if my battery dies in 3 years!

But recently I have been sending my boy newspaper clippings daily, that may also be the cause of faster battery drain. Guess I should observe longer before I come to any conclusion.

我上個月才買了Paperwhite, 短期內唔再入啦，仲邊有preference。

只是儘量將留意到的資料跟大家分享吧了。

為方便各家長參考，以下我將美、日版的New Paperwhite WiFi only model 做了一個簡短比較：

美版：US$139(海外運費另計)、有簡體中文menu、2G memory 及可直接網上落單送到香港

日版：JPY9,980、沒有簡體中文menu、4G memory及不接受海外地址訂購

剛發現，國內地址的 amacon.cn account 比香港地址的，可以找到更多 ebooks！
如最美最美的中國童話，國內的可找到32本，香港的只有 26本

Actually I first registered with a Mainland address. All went well until yesterday when they detected my ? IP address was from elsewhere. I was not allowed to download samples until I changed to a HK address.
But then the book I wanted to download disappeared! That's how I learned that not all ebooks are shown to HKers.

Thanks Huba! But I don't think it likely that they will change their policy, otherwise they don't need to have amazon.com, .co.uk, .cn...
I usually try to bypass their limitations myself. There is a will, there is a way.

你找到的網站，跟好多其他台灣電子書網站一樣，是供 PC/iPad/Android devices 看的，不支援 kindle. 低小中文繁體書，我也找不到現成的

Update：

我用香港地址也買齊了整套書啦！自今年8月買了KPW開始，這套書我是見一冊便掃一冊，一路上3月至12月的都陸續有得掃，唯獨是1月及2月的就一直不放給大陸以外的客戶。

剛剛見到他們合拼了一至三月成為套裝「春」及開放給香港地址客戶購買，為了不想重覆之前買了的三月份上中下三冊，便立即電話聯絡他們商量退款，電話客服也十分幫手，即刻去申請特別退款批準，而我也隨即落單買𠹺最新的套裝，就此全套書齊晒！

我也曾見過RMB13.xx的價錢，但在跟他們溝通三月的童話退款時要跳去不同的版面，之後便再見不到RMB13.xx, 我仲以為是自己之前眼花。

如果購買Kindle ebook 已超過七天，根據條款他們可以不退款。

不過我㑹建議你一試，記住要找真人直接電話Kindle客服，不要online chat，建議說明你的意圖是去買整套書但不想重覆浪費。先想好一些理由及用誠意，好讓客服可以幫你取approval。如果一次不成功，隔天再試一次或許會遇上更友善的客服。
