小女在加拿大念French Immersion 小學致Grade 3. 她能說和書寫流利英語及法語。但只能說中文, 卻不會看和寫中文。現回港尋找小學，請問有什麼合適小學介紹？
懇請指教！感激不盡！

如係加拿大citizen , 就試Canadian intl school, waiting lists 好長，但citizen 係優先。再申請埋French intl school.

Cndis的citizenship優先係得啖笑，1）佢係私校，吾同SIS果種真優先； 2）香港太多加拿大人。

亦可以選擇Delia School of Canada. 算是比較平的國際學校。

政府不會資助個別學生讀私校和國際學校，你可以問學校有沒 financial assistance.
另外，有些本地學校是有收中文較弱的學生，但主要是南亞裔小孩讀，就看你介唔介意，向教育暑問問。

No harm to email ICS to seek for financial aid, there might be something they could help. I heard they offer some kind of help for existing students but not sure for new kids.

我個人認為如果學費對家庭構成一項大的負擔, 我唔會讀國際. 教育是重要, 但沒有需要因學費的關係而大大加重家庭/自己的壓力. 加上香港的國際學校大多OVERPRICE.

Hi leokmcheung - if I were you, I would accept the ICS offer first and wait list ESF. Not sure whether you are aware that spots of International schools are difficult to come by, especially in primary years. We have also relocated to HK from Canada very recently and has a daughter in early primary. We had also debated whether it's worthwhile to pay that tuition fee. But we've seen some of our friends in similar situation sent their kids to local schools, failed (the kids were very frustrated at school because of difficulty in catching up in Chinese) and the mums had to take the kids back to Canada while the husbands stayed here to work. Not ideal! But we've also seen other cases whereas the parents sent their kids to local schools to learn Chinese for a few years before they went back to Canada for high school. But those parents never plan to stay here for long, so I guess the kids' low grades in Chinese subject is not a major concern. But if you need that report card to apply to secondary schools in HK, I'll suggest you to think twice. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

If you do not insist on International Schools, think about St. Margaret http://www.smcesps.edu.hk/, as they mainly conduct the class in English with minimum of Chinese, local curriculum though.

Did you try Anfield Primary School in Tai Wai? The school fee is reasonable and no need to pay debenture.

The school runs in British Curriculum.

School fee for Anfield Primary is $10500 x 10 months, not cheap at all comparing to most schools. But true, their debenture is only $30k which is a lot cheaper than others.

Korean international school, with no debenture n lower school fee.
Don't worry, God will make a way.

Try maryknoll convent school, local school withe great English.
Only that you need to catch up with Chinese. In secondary, you Don't need to Chinese, some may take French. You try to call n ask ask.

Haha, just saw this, bit late for a reply, but anyway, here goes ...

It is not 得啖笑 if you don't have that country's citizenship, in which case your chances will be near to zero. So how is it not "真優先"?

Yes there may be a lot of Hongkongers who possess Canadian citizenship, but there are many more who don't (me for example), for us that "優先" is very real as it will exclude us {:1_1:}

SIS的國民優先，係真野，因為間學校係govt funded或類似安排。只要個小朋友係新加坡公民，interview表現吾係重點，有位一定收，學校會想幫小朋友。

Cndis係私校，完全吾一樣，近兩三年尤其離譜。無謂數學校，令在校家長吾愉快，但見到太多不平事，作為國民，我只報過一年就費事簁氣，3、4000元報名費食左好過。

I see, so are you saying CNDIS had recently admitted many who are not Canadian citizens so the citizen priority is just a joke?

Well it may not benefit me nor affect you, but it might make a difference to others who read this forum.

CDNIS publicly stated they give priority to Canadian citizens, in black and white on their website, if this priority is truly a joke, then it might encourage some non-citizens (like me) to apply {:1_1:}

Still a priority isn't it, if the child is not a citizen he/she won't even be interviewed.

Nowadays all international schools are like that, the priority is just for getting an interview, the child still has to pass or do well at the interview to be admitted.

Have you tried Norwegian Intl School in Tai Po? A very good Christian school with small class size. The teachers seem very loving and caring. School fee is around $8000 x 10 including capital levy ; no debenture. http://nis.edu.hk/admissions/tuition-fees/
Or it's sister school Island Christian Academy in Sheung Wan. School fee around $9000 x10 including capital levy; no debenture.

As one of the parents mentioned earlier, there are some DSS / Local schools that allow the students to study French instead of Chinese in higher grades. I'm not familiar with those. You could check with EDB. Wish you luck!

St Paul's Convent School in Causeway Bay. They have French stream....for non-Chinese speaking students.

And we haven't heard anything from them since then.

May be worth trying Delia in Taikooshing.
Secondary section may be a little worrying to many parents, but the primary section should be fine.

I heard from CAIS that they will launch the debenture of HK$250,000 in 2016. Non-refundable but transferable.... Is it true?

Capital Notes, Certificates and Levies (+2016)
Unless exempted due to financial hardship, upon commencement of
student registration for the new school in Lai Chi Kok scheduled for 2016,
all parents will be required to have their children covered by capital notes
(corporate or individual), individual capital certificates, or annual levies.
However, no purchase is required prior to registration commencement. A
brief description of each capital instrument follows.
Corporate Capital Note (CCN)
A CCN may be purchased by a company incorporated in Hong Kong
entitling its holder to nominate and reserve a place for one child of its
director or employee for enrolment at the School. A CCN will have an initial
subscription price and face value of HK$1 million. The first issue of CCN will
consist of five (5) only. A CNN is transferable but is non-interest bearing,
non-refundable and unsecured.
Individual Capital Note (ICN)
An ICN shall be issued and held by an individual who is resident in Hong
Kong. Its holder is entitled to nominate one child for enrolment at the
School. An ICN is transferable but is non-interest bearing, non-refundable
and unsecured. The initial face value of ICN’s, guaranteed only for parents
who currently have children enrolled at CAIS, will be HK$250,000.
Except as indicated below, initial subscription prices of ICN’s applicable to
registration of children in the new school will be HK$250,000.
Discounted ICN: A limited number of ICN’s may be offered, prior to new
school opening in successive batches with decreasing discounts.
Individual Capital Certificate (ICC)
An ICC is supplementary to a CCN or ICN to cover sibling(s) of a child
registered by a CCN or ICN holder. Face value of ICC’s will be discounted to
lessen burdens of Note holders with prices as follows:
First ICC: 90% of face value
Additional ICC: 85% of face value
Subsequent ICC’s: Further 5% discount of face value of most recent tranche
of ICN for each additional ICC.
ICC’s are non-transferable but redeemable at face value upon request of
the holder subject to conditions specified by the School. ICC’s will only be
available upon commencement of student registration for the new school.
Annual Capital Levy (ACL)
Upon commencement of student registration for the new school, a nonrefundable
capital levy will be assessed annually for each student in grades
seven (7) through twelve (12) not covered by a CCN, ICN or ICC. The levy
for the first year of operation will be HK$25,000 but is subject to annual
review. The ACL is payable each year upon registration. No discount will be
offered on an ACL.
