I would say 15. Finish grade 9. Or grade 11 and apply community college right the way. Skip one year of school. It's really depends in the child's talent.

15 is too old, the main reason we are in Hong Kong is want him to learn some Chinese first, and I don't want him to go back to late and he will be speaking "hongkongese" english!! most of my friends in US went there before highschool seems like they have a better chance to speak with no chinese accent.

My wife went to Australia boarding school when she was 12. I don't see her English is anything good
It is really depends on the individual in my view. Don't send your kid to big cities like SF, NY, Boston, try smaller village in the east coast or middle west.

I will probably go with him when it's time! I lived in LA for 20 years and just moved back to hk to have baby cos I want my kid to learn Chinese.
He is in Montessori now cos I think hk education is too stressful! I'm thinking to send him to local primary school but I'm worry about 公民教育! and dont want my son too be too stressful about school! but i also don't want to pay so much for international school as he is US citizen, I can easily go back and save a lot of money!!!
Do u send your kids to international or local school?

Well.. I believe the HK English curriculum does a better job in building a strong foundation in English writing than the US curriculum does. That's from my experience. So there's advantage for your child to stay in HK for longer.

唔一定!我朋友個女讀女拔,英文成績亦好好,佢過英國讀 yr 10 都話覺得有少少力有不逮,唔好以為香港英文好,過到去就ok,始終英文係要浸淫先可以好

I guess UK schools have higher standards than US schools then.

i think it really depends on the individual or the school she goes to. I found the stand varies a lot from school to school in US too.

very hard in my case, my son understand English well, just never speak with me. I tried to talk Mandarin with him, he doesnt speak as well. When he was young, we put him to an international school, he did not speak Chinese with us. That is why at the end, we decided to go local school and let him pick up English at later time.

I actually dont want to speak english with him at home cos I want him to learn chinese! I even dont hire philipino maid for this reason.
the only reason I am thinking when to send him back to US not too old its because I want him to speak English with no accent later.
