My child is studying K1 in St. Cat. I want to apply her into ESF primary school after she finishes K3. But is it an ESF custom that the school will take the child in at K3 (Year 1)?

Children born in 2009 may apply in coming September 2013 and enter Year 1 (August 2014) at age of 5.

Let me put my question this way: is it customary that ESF schools enrol the child into K3 (Year 1) not P1 (Year 2)?

簡単的説、讀完Ｋ２就可以考ＥＳＦ的Ｐ１．　　但如果想入ＥＳＦ的Ｐ２、就会変成是挿班生、入学機会応該更難。

ESF 2011 年，小學已有5000人排緊隊，cat 1機會都很細，就算肯花50萬只是有入場抽獎卷！

英基嘅year 1, 即等如st cat嘅k3, 所以如果你想小朋友入英基year 1, 黎緊九月你就要申請，否則如你想等完成k3 , 就要讀year 2 喇

Yes, my child is born in 2008 (細B).
When K3=Year 1, then that means after St. Cat K2, if my child get accepted into ESF school, she will enter Year 1.
From the current situation, I think I'm late applying now.

I do understand that competition is intensive.

How much is application fee?

Yes, you are late in application if your kid was born in 2008. We all have the acceptance results around Feb and will be starting Y1 this Aug.

Well, if your kid was born in Nov/Dec2008 may be you can speak to the admission officer of ESF to see if it's possible for your kid to join the 2009 batch in the coming central application (which usually begins in Sep and end in a month), and start Y1 in Aug2014.

如果是細B可以考慮試讀低一級啦，因為2008出生率高，學位特別緊張，我個女都係咁，加上遲咗報會難上加難，我見了兩間IS都話可以讀低一年，因為是細B, 現在收了阿女讀reception class的學校仲安慰我，話都唔算讀遲一年，只是香港的IS是計12月足齡，但如果佢喺UK讀書，

是計9月的，咁都是要2014年才可讀P1

Can some mommies here help me with the year group problem as well?
My daughter was born in late 1997 and she's in Form 3 right now. ESF only lets her apply for Y12 but Y11 for RC. Honestly, I prefer the ESF schools but I'm really worried that my d can't handle Y12 or can't even pass the admissions test.

我大仔時佢都係讀傳統幼稚園都係讀完K2 就直讀Y1！

What is the harm of just asking especially if one is desperate? Yes, there is no guarantee if the school will let the child delay one year, but if you do not ask, for sure you won't get it, and in my case, I asked and I got it!

It costs only $150 to apply, the admission criteria will change next year and it might be a lot more competitive. Also starting in 2014/15 means losing of Government subvention.
