Got the place of both schools and struggling which one is better for my boy.

Any comment from parents?

I will choose SJS.

Kingston has a partner secondary school ICHK in Sha Tau Kok and need to pay non-refundable levy in secondary as well as primary school.

ESF can use the refundable levy to carry to secondary school that is supposed to have a place in secondary after the completion of primary school.

SJS. An established school, running PYP. Academically, ESF has good IB Diploma result.
It is not easy to get a spot at SJS, are you Cat 1 and from ESF kindergarten ?

true! SJS then Shatin College with nearly 30% graduates passing IB with over 40 high mark.

I am in Cat 2 and not studied at ESF kindergarten.  I applied an individual application.  I am not the first round interview list, just on waiting list for interview.

I don't think ESF Kindergarten has the priority to have place.  It all depends on the performance during the interview process in case you have chance to have interview.

The day of our interview - i guess may be 1 from 5 candidates.

But you have already paid the 72000 levy for Kingston primary?

of course la... ESF also need to pay $25000.

... but can be refundable.

why would you need to consider? although kingston kinder has good reputation (and it is likely i will accept the offer for PG), i heard most parents will choose a dragon school for primary given the secondary of kingston, at shatoukok, is not considered a viable choice.

I worried about is their Chinese standard.

ESF is a big school while Kingston is a small school.  It can provides overall growth development.

ESF is comparatively weak in chinese than RCHK and Kingston.  Their chinese writing is simplified chinese but I wish to learn traditional that Kingston and RCHK used.

I have not decided the secondary school in HKG or overseas... so still struggling.

My son also have the waiting list on RCHK... but it may be a long queue.

SJS for sure

We just give up our RCHK offer, hope will give you a higher chance.

shrimpiggy, which school you choose... by giving up RCHK

KJS. We also struggle to drop RCHK which is also a school of ESF.
ESF schools have very good publics exam results and university placement. Also the Alumni network is also important where RCHK is still catching up the other ESF school.
One last consideration is location. We live in Kowloon and we don't want our kids spend too much time to travel to and fro school everyday.

do you know how many will stay on to kingston primary? is it that they like it or they couldn't find good enough through train primary IS? and do they do well in enrolling into esf schools, or even to schools like HKIS, CIS, ISF etc? thanks.

thank you for parents' comment.

If I take SJS for my younger son, I need to bring him to school first and then bring my elder son to Kingston for P2 then.  It is really a tough job everyday for their mom.

It is really a tough decision to make. But I think your kids will be good as they have a good mummy!

Whether learning simplified Chinese or not is not a big issue, but the Chinese level of esf is really a concern if Chinese is important to you.

With the implementation of the non-refundable levy, some parents left last year if they do not consider staying with Kingston.

Most parents prefer staying at Kingston coz most of them will go overseas for the secondary school.  Or they really like to small class with bilingual teaching (Chinese is quite strong).

Due to the location of the secondary school is in Shataukok, some parents also applied for RCHK, SIS, CIS, AIS, etc (all famous branded school) for a one-dragon policy, but not too much in this year.

The students in Kingston are strong during the interview process, maybe the IB training in Kindergarten which helps them a lot.

I heard a lot go to harrow? so is harrow good in their view? I would have thought they target biligual schools like CIS, ISF, SIS.

How is the english? how is it compared against native level?

SJS.................

SJS without a doubt.  I would enroll the younger one into SJS and apply for the elder one to SJS and get sibling priority.  They would then be in the same school and solve your childcare problem.

In the year of my elder son, only one went to harrow in the public application but noticed until August.

In the year of my younger son, one has already gone to harrow reception class by paying $1M.

Harrow is good if you plan to study in UK.  Please don't think about chinese.

I would choose ESF; otherwise u will get into another trouble in p6 unless the shatoukok school is yr target

Kingston is not popular as a few years ago. the traditional IS and many newcomer are outperforming.
so true that most IS are through train for primary and secondary, it is not easy to get in only if you have debenture, good connections or your kid is very outstanding 6years later.  who knows....

As my friends told me their Chinese are very good and good training for the presentation skills. Kingston is most likely between the traditional LS and IS, but it is really hard for the kids after P6, nowadays, the compititions are so keen.

They have 文言文 to learn and develop the writing of sentences both in English & Chinese.  Students like to read & write.

Dear parents,

Thank you for all your comments and sharing your valuable views.  Let me update my status.

Finally I decided to stay at Kingston for small class and good learning in Chinese.  I worried that I shall become a monster mom for pushing my little prince to take additional chinese class and homework every day.

I think it may be difficult to enter into the primary school if you didn't take the kindergarten.  After paying the capital levy, parents are ready to enter into primary school.

Kindergarten - 5 classes of max 16 students each
Primary school - 3 classes of max 20 students each

I guess only $10K and $25K can be refundable if I withdraw.

I understand that for the existing practice of Kingston, a capital levy shall be paid for kindergarten and another levy shall be paid for primary. This is what I have been told by the school officer.

Yes. I was told. So if u join them from playgroup, you can at most enjoy four years for the capital levy for CC being paid( children centre).

If Chinese standard is one of your concern, choose Kingston.  Since Kingston provide stronger Chinese language studies among the IS.

Is ESF thru train? And could anyone tell me what is cat 1 and 2 for ESF schools?

I have read their website but my friend whose daughter is going to ESF Kinder said her daughter still have to be competitive enough to earn a place for primary and it is not guaranteed that ESF kinder students will go to ESF primary school... I am a bit confused.

From ESF kindergartens to ESF primary schools is not "through train" arrangement.   But from primary schools to secondary schools is.
