If ESF is suggesting that you re-apply in August, then it sounds like you will be applying for the next year (Year 2).
I had a friend whose Dec son interviewed 2 years ago (in Jan 2011) and the school thought he wasn't ready so suggested that they defer for one year and they would hold his application for the following year and there was no need to reapply (this is key) in Aug 2011. They re-interviewed him in Jan 2012 for Year 1 and he was accepted and he started Year 1 in Aug 2012 at Kennedy school.
What month is your child born? And what school are you interviewing for? Often the school will offer a second interview chance in May.

I see. So they are suggesting that u re-apply and if a Year 1 space comes up, then they will offer you a chance to re- interview again. Registration fee is only $150, which is low for an intl school application fee, so worth a shot.
You could also apply in Sep for a Year 2 spot. With sibling priority, you are likely to get an interview opportunity again, should a space open up (depends on how transient your catchment is.)
In either case, it sounds like the school was concerned about your daughter's English level. Is your daughter a native English speaker? If she is giving one-word answers bc of shyness, u may want to enroll her in some classes to work on that. Otherwise if u feel her English level is not up to speed (hence one word answers), then classes on English verbal skills may be helpful. That way, she will be better prepared when she interviews again.
Are you targeting other schools? RC or other intl schools?

Which ESF school do you apply for?
A friend of mine who is the NR holder was just "rejected", they applied for Kennedy School.
No sibling, but is Nomination Right (NR) holder.

好令人擔憂，怕兩年後細果個就算有sibling 都入唔番，今年知道RC ,Esf 都有reject sibling ，往年都未聽過

The ESF kindergarten knows the child well, after all the child had been there for a year and P1 interviews should not give surprises.
If the reason for not being accepted was giving single word answers, the kindergarten should have advised the parents before the interview and something could have been done about it. Still, it is not too late and there are 6 months between now and August to better prepare for it.

Same case here. My son got a seat in coming Aug in ESF, the principal gave my daughter (they are twins) one more chance for second interview in Aug coz she answered single words during the first interview.

Wow, the competition is really tough.
Tcbobo, I suggest you re-apply and try to train your child to speak more English in long answer. Too short answer is the weakness at this moment. So, go to correct it.
