if you can afford, no matter it is easy to obtain or not then you should apply it.

you still need a backup plan as NR just guarantee the interview but not a placement.

I know of two cases in which the child was studying at Woodland Montessori on Caine Rd and applied to Glenealy Year 1 (their catchment area) and they both received two letters: one rejection letter for their regular online application followed by one interview offer letter based on their nomination rights application.
(Btw Glenealy is traditionally considered to be one of the "harder" catchments as they only have 2 classes per year (so 60 places total for year 1) and the catchment includes many category 1 applicants.)

yes, thus u can only apply immediately when it s open for application this year if any.

Hypothetical question. What if you moved out of your catchment area after your current catchment school offered you a spot?  But your child hasn't started school yet.

I think u should tell them on the registration when they give ur kid an offer.

If you can afford the nomination rights of ESF, that means you can cover many of the debentures of some other int'l schools. Given the intense competition for ESF, suggest you getting a backup plan with other int'l schools.

In fact, IS is not easy to get in and back up plans is necessary. CIS takes non locals, ISF takes mostly siblings, Cdnis and other are all over applied 10 times.
And option is RC, It's NR is 400k. This year not all applicants have a chance to interview.

Can only try at your best shot. I just know for the ESF primary school that you're looking for, it rejected kids from KCIS. Seems that even interview was not granted.

And PS.. Among the 120 Y1 seats that are available, about 20 have always been reserved for overseas kids in case they applied.

I can help.  We handed in our NR application in Oct last year.  We queued up early the day they started to accept application, even before the ESF office opened.  When it opened, there was already quite a long line up.  Our application was date and time stamped because application is on a first come first serve basis.  Then we received a letter from the school we elected in the application to bring our daughter in for an interview.  We are lucky she passed the interview and has just been offered a place at P1 this coming August.

I also have another friend who handed in their NR application (for P2) who hadn't yet gotten a date for interview last Christmas.

We applied to Bradbury because we live nearby.   My daughter's English is pretty alright but I won't say she is at the native level.  When we went for the interview, the teacher there said they were looking for kids who are ready for school and those who are able to handle classes in English.  If your child can satisfy the above and if you are serious about going to ESF, then I think NR can really help provided you hand in your NR application early.  As said before, last year's NR applications were "first come first served".

Sonoma123, many thanks and congratulations again!!

Forgot to say we do have a foreign passport but i don't think that made too much of a difference with the nomination rights.

the esf website says "during the first month after it opens priority will be given to applicants from overseas and overseas passport holders currently residing in Hong Kong with conditional terms of stay", do you think you fall into this category? if not, does it mean quite a lot of NRs are left for sale to locals?

also, how many people were there on that day? do you know if they sell out very soon?

I think no one know how many of the 150 NR sold and how many of these NR holders got an offer and how many of them will accept the offer as not all the IS completed interview so far.

To be honest, I think your daughter must be very smart as Bradbury did have very strict admission criteria, in particular English.

what is your concern? I think you just need to fill the form and write a cheque of 50k for a trial if you can afford it.
you can never know how many foreigners and locals subscribe it next year.  As said, the only thing you can do is to submit your form earlier.

No I don't think I fall into that category.  I have an overseas passport but I am also a permanent residen in HK so my stay in HK is not subject to any conditional terms of stay.

I can't remember exactly how many people were there on that day but I think it was probably about 100+.  Not sure if the NR were sold out on the day.

The Nomination Right Scheme superseded Corporate Surety Scheme, I guess expats may take the advantages for that.
作者: jenntang    時間: 13-3-12 12:02

what is the nomination rights?
作者: Shrimpiggy    時間: 13-3-12 12:24     標題: 回覆:jenntang 的帖子

A non refundable fee to nominate one kid to attend the interview for admission to ESF schools. Pls find the Esf website for detail.
For Y1, usually ESF will randomly pick a number of kids for interview based on Cat1, Cat2, ESF KG, siblings, teaching staffs priority. Thus interview chance is by luck. And if you are in CAT2, the school will explicitly mention that even you fulfill the english requirement, but you will only be put in the waiting list. The NR is a ticket for the kid to ensure an interview chance and a surety placement if the kid passes the assessment.

This week's ESF newsletter mentioned that they were still accepting nomination rights applications now, although they did not specify for which schools (and associated grade levels).

"Nomination Rights Scheme available for application
ESF’s Nomination Rights Scheme which opened for application in October 2012 is still accepting applications for the 150 places available across all year groups, including for a small number of places remaining in Years 1 and 7. Application details can be found on the ESF website at http://www.esf.edu.hk/esf-nomination-rights."

Seems it has not yet fully subscribed and soliciting those in waiting list to subscribe.

I heard of 2 nomination rights cases for ESF schools  - and both were offered interviews. One of them (a Singaporean family) passed but the other (local family) failed, and I guess her nomination right would go back into the pool.
作者: poonseelai    時間: 13-3-14 16:23

Assuming parents would like to go to ESF due to its more affordable school fees, this non refundable nomination right and the removal of government subvention would mean the school fees are no longer more affordable.

True but their academic results is also attractive for Asian and Indian parents....
