Any parents with their kids studying at the VSA? Do you think the school is good or bad? I have heard that VSA primary school is not bad but have mixed comments on their scecondary school.

Some kids don't study very well under IB because of various reasons (mostly not due to the school) and their parents will tend to give negative feedback on the school. On the other hand, those who study well will give commendations on the school. Before deciding whether the school is the right choice for your kid, I'd recommend you to look at what IB education can benefit your kid and go to the school to get some idea of the study environment there. There is no perfect school for eveyone but rather a matching process!

avaya, are you considering to put your kid in this school? I am reading comments on BK regarding this school and noted that there are mixed comments. Some said the school is good and some said it's terrible. No clue. Have you visited the school? If yes, what do you think?

I have visited th school and I like it. I also think that IB is a good enquiry base education system. I don't worry too much about VSA primary school. Just that I am not too sure about their secondary school. Seems like their IB DP results are not bad in 2012, although VSA still cannot beat CIS, CDNIS.

A lot of VSA parents saying the school is improving. Probably, better result would be seen in few years time as you said VSA primary is ok.

Is it true that those who newly join P1 need to buy debenture which costs up to 400000?is it the type that will be refunded when the kid graduate, or otherwise?

500000 refundable. The kg kids hv no advantage anymore

500000?! I do understand IB school need resources, but I really don't understand why they need so so much. Are they trying to turn schools into USA NASA researching rocket science?

My son studied in VSA for two years. It is a good school. We have discussed this topics before and you can refer to earlier thread.

Hihi! Has the amount of debenture and format has been announced? As I did a school visit last week and they said details not available yet.

Nono, I am not doubting vic's quality. I know it is good. I was referring generally to IB schools, not just Vic.

That's what I learnt fr the school tour. Priority is only given to debenture holders.

Hi musicien,
Actually doing the school tour mrs smith the headmistress said that from this year all students - Vic's or other students are able to apply together at k2 (previously only Vic's student can apply at k2) . But Vic's kindergarten kids will still be given priority. When we were touring with the deputy headmaster, he mentioned that Vic kindergarteners would be given priority as they will know these kids better - they will be able to look into their record cards and ask feedbacks from their respective kindies. And they know these kids will not have cultural shock being at VsA. He actually said twice that Vic's kindies would be preferred.

I could be wrong, but I got this message three times. But then I agree that when $$$$ comes in place, that would become another important factor.

When did u attend the tour? I attended in dec. when being asked the headmistress admitted that the Vic kg kids only has adv when two kids hv the same score. The Chinese teacher also admitted that kg kids actually do not hv priorities as before. I agree that the format may give more advantage to the Vic kg kids. But it's not the same thing. I'm actually v disappointed.

Does anyone know whether level of pay of the teachers at Vic is comparably with other good IB schools? I ask coz keeping teachers' turnover low is very important. Though I know pay is not the only important factor in the equation, it does have an impact. I also know even within one school, pays vary among teachers and also it is hard to compare when one takes into accout bonus and other intangible benefits. But I just wish to have a rough idea. Does anyone know?

Yes I think this will be the arrangement. I think too many Vic kg kids only see vsa as big fall back hence they need to come up with sthg for a change. But for parents like us who were willing to forgo all other kgs for vsa, we r utterly disappointed with the abrupt change. I do think Vic kg kids r more likely to get a place as they were taught with similar school culture but I don't consider it as priority. Maybe some advantage but only debenture is wat they really count lor.

All in all, my experience is that the school management of VSA are comparatively receptive to the comments/suggestions from parents.

That's what they told me in my school tour in mid dec. they said details will be confirmed later.

This news is more discouraging than its positive effect. Its positive side is that VSA seats will no longer be taken up by those who take it as a back-up. This would mean that if you send your kids to VSA, you know he will be having more competent classmates. I expect that this to be an upside, particularly when IB curriculum would require more interaction among the peers. But the downside is that I believe many parent would have bitter feelings

This is my concern too. Normally, the debenture will give you the priority for one kid only. However, the sibling should also get the priority as well. If so, we do not need to take out another 500k but may need to pay certain amount of levy. The website stated that the details of the debenture will be issued in due course. I think we will have to wait.

I remember the principal said that siblings will hv a chance for another assessment in six months time if he or she failed the first. That's it wor.

500k is already too much. I really do not want to pay another 500k though refundable. Hope they can come up with a better plan. Aii....it is so sad that we have to pay so much.

They are good in general. Of course there will be some school bullies, I think every school have some, teachers are aware of it and will keep an eye on them.

During assembly time, all students behave well. You will be surprised that no one talk.
