In my opinion, if 0 = absolutely casual, 100 = absolutely formal; it should be a 80 for an SIS interview for the kid.

As parents need not be 'assessed', it should be a 60-70 to show respect to the school and the occasion.

Why 80?  Competition is absolutely keen, you have to make your kid stand out in some way, but not in the way of 'overly formally dressed' which would be odd in an admission interview for a school which sells excellence but not extravagance .

I would probably choose to dress my child comfortably in more "smart casual" than formal clothing. (e.g. for my son, that would probably mean a sweater and some comfortable cargo pants.) I have no experience with SIS but for other international school interviews, we are told to just dress your child comfortably. In one international school parent briefing (ESF), we were explicitly told by the principal "not to dress your child in a suit"!
