My boy went to WKS for "play visit" today... he was so shy, and didn't say a word..... I am so worried!

Don't worry. ESF's play visit is not like the typical kindergarten interview where they expect children to be talkative and able to perform amazing feats, I believe what ESF look for is evidence that the child could understand and respond to the parent's spoken English and play with the parent as normal. Sounds easy, but if the parent had not been using English extensively with the child in routine daily life and just switch to it on the day of the play visit, then the child might be confused by the sudden change and feel lost.

唔好意思,我想問下,play visit個過程其實係做啲咩架?是否需要家長陪?同埋過程大約幾耐呀?

謝謝!

It took about 30 minutes. There were around 6 kids going into a class room with their parents. There are various set up in the room - books, toys (animals, cars, trains, etc), drawing board. So each kid picks what they like. The principle came in with 2 teachers, and listened to how each family interacted with each other during the play times. They might ask the kid questions. And they asked me what language we speak at home.

Fattydaddy, if a child holds a foreign passport and English is her first language (also speaks Cantonese), do you know if this should fall under Cat 1 or 2? Tks!

Officially, that is according to the public statements on ESF's website, foreign passport plays no part, and English does not have to be the child's first language. Being able to speak Cantonese would mean Cat 2.

Unofficially ... it is anybody's guess, many believe foreign passport gives a slight advantage, so make sure this is mentioned in the application form.
